That's the problem with a lot of internet memes: the original idea that made it funny quickly gets stale through the inflationary use of the reference and all that remains to make the people go wild about it is the recognition of something familiar that got stored in the brain under the category "this is funny" without further consideration of the original ingenuity. It already killed "The cake is a lie" in the past.
