Unofficial FAQ for all the naysayers

I’ve decided to make an unofficial FAQ because these days people don’t realise that the so called “flaws” are actual design choices.
Q: Why only 50-60% of the 4 cores in my CPU are being utilized? My FPS should be a lot higher.
A: This is done intentionally so even people with old hardware (pre-multicore era) can enjoy the game. (see Blizzard games for example)
Q: NS2 doesn’t have true dynamic shadow. Doom 3 had that in 2004.
A: Again, this is done intentionally so people with very old hardware can play the game.
Q: The game doesn’t allow players to re-bind many keys such as weapon 1 and weapon 2.
A: UWE doesn’t want to give players too many options to fiddle with because they want to standardize the controls and make the game more accessible for the community. Less is more sometimes. (See user friendliness in iOS vs Android).
Q: As an alien commander, I find it extremely annoying that I have to either jump out of the hive or ask my teammate to see what upgrades we have/lost.
A: This is intended to be extra “busy work” because alien comm have far less work to do than a marine comm.
Q: In NS1, alien players have all the visual indicators of what hive /upgrades they have. NS2 doesn’t have any.
A: That’s because UWE doesn’t want to clutter our screen with too much HUD.
Q: Then why do marines get a static mini-map and weapon/armour indicators?
A: The game is asymmetrical.
Q: When spectating, I can’t view in first person and the game doesn’t show the player’s name.
A: For obvious privacy concerns, UWE doesn’t want the players to feel like they are being “stalked”.

That part.
read thread title, keyword "unofficial".
People on this board are so ****** negative. You can't even post anything constructive without being labled a troll.
Seriously though, you truly have a gift for ruffling feathers :P

There is no performance advantage to choosing not to use multiple cores. The parts of NS2 that are not multithreaded are due to technical challenges.
NS2 does have dynamic shadows.
That's just silly, they have specifically said that there are technical limitations preventing them from adding more binds right now.
No way is this true.
I don't know if that's the reason or not but I'd like to see a source.
That's not a helpful answer. For one thing aliens don't have weapon/armor upgrades. It would probably be more accurate to say that alien hive sight is intended to be their equivalent to the minimap.
lol. First person spectating will be in the game next week.
Welp there goes my hope for a 240 Friday release
