First shots of my readyroom

Guess i'll have to continue mapping now
Well, after my first hallway I wanted to create a readyroom. So started working on it, but it was not easy. I didn't really had a plan on how I wanted it to look, but I had some small ideas on what I wanted to be in there. I think I've managed to create the things I wanted.

It's not complete yet though, for instance an spectate option is still missing. I'm not sure where to place that one yet. I've got some ideas though, but I haven't worked them out yet. Well, I guess you guys want some screenies right?? Well, here they go.

A global view of the ready room. Also check out the rotating light at the top.

Another global view of the room from a different point

A closer look at the rotating light.

You want to be a marine???

You'd better be prepared for some spotlights then.

Don't know on which side you want to be, huh?

You want to be an ugly alien? You'd better be prepared.

The random chamber and the aliens chamber also has a spotlight when somebody enters that side of the room. Haven't posted the pics of those though.

I'm not sure I'm really happy about this room yet. I think it's missing something, but I don't know what. I'm not really happy with the architecture in the rooms either.

Well, I hope you like these pics as much as you liked my hallway. But, I'll guys I'll have to wait and see.

You got nice effects but what you really need is better architecture. Right now it just looks like a shoebox with ramdom textures. Play around making corridors and objects as much you can until it looks good enough to be in a real game. That's what i'm doing right now.

Then try to make a ns level.

mmm, exactly what he said, you need better architecture in there, not just a square box. Try creating multiple parts for one wall, sloping them etc, add in detail on the walls, pipes, etc.

the design is very blocky. try adding some curves and such. lighting looks pretty nice.

It's a nice effort to begin with but as everyone has already said, it looks very simple. the readyroom really is your only chance to go absolutely nuts with detail...mainly because you never see it mid game... pump out a bit more meaningful texturing and make the brush work a little more detailed and you'll be on a winner..

Well, it's been quite a while, I've been very busy with other things (school and such). But in the meanwhile I've tried to add some more detail to my ReadyRoom, and make it a bit curvier. It's been hard though, but I'm a little bit more satisfied with this one than then one before. Still, I think it's still a little bit blocky, but I would like to know your opinion on it. Well, here are the shots:

Well, tell me what you think, and don't be rough on me, it's still one of my first serious tries on mapping.

Much improved brushwork in those pics.

    Some textureing advice:
That ceiling texture has what I call a 'built in lightsource' so it always looks like it's lit from top-left, with the indistinct lighting in this room it doesn't work.

Try using a trim texture on the from of your steps, it looks much better.

Hmm, I'm not really sure what you mean, and I think you are confusing the ceiling and the floor. You are first talking about the texture on the ceiling which has a built-in light source like you say it. And then you say I should change the texture on my steps, which are of course on the floor. And I have no idea what you mean with a trim texture. Maybe you could explain it to me a little more .

your improving evidently! Feels good to see.

he means u should switch texture on the part of the stairs were you could hurt your toe while running upwards.

personaly i think the walls need retexturing too

Hmmz, it could be me, but I still don't understand. Maybe it's because I'm not from an English speaking country, I don't know. Sorry .

By the way, it took me quite some time to get those textures right, but if you think I need to put some other texture there, I will. But I was wondering, I wanted to create a room with partly infested walls, and partly not. But I just couldn't get the overflow right, it just wouldn't work. Any ideas?

I meant change the main ceiling texture and the fronts of your steps (not to the same texture).

BASETRIM02 would look good on the step fronts. I recommend you expriment with different ceiling textures.

Okay, I see what you meant with the trim thingy, I didn't really know there where any textures like that, but you can use them with a lot of things (like lifts and such). So, thnx for the tip.

I've also changed the ceiling texture. Problem is though, that there isn't really a wide choice of ceiling textures. I've choosen for the wet texture (I'm not sure what it's name is exactly, but it's something with wet ). I wanted it to fit with the infested textures on the wall, so this was my best choice (well, at least I thought so).

I'd also like to know what you think about the lighting. Is it any good?
