Alien jump fail

This has been bugging me for awhile.

Sometimes when I hit the jump button as aliens(not leap) I seem to go forward slightly instead of jumping up, it really breaks the flow of my movement and I can't seem to understand what does this?

Sounds like you might be wall jumping without realising it...?

Wall jumping is a mechanic where you gain forward momentum by timing a jump just as you brush against a wall. This momentum is lost easily (eg by mis-timing a wall jump, by jumping twice off the floor, clipping, etc). If you gain speed by falling then jump on the floor as you land, you'll also notice you can maintain a lot of forward momentum. Combine this with wall jumps for more speeeed!

If you're jumping forwards unexpectedly and you're not near a vertical surface (ie you already know about wall jumping and the above was not helpful), then you may have discovered a bug. I'd be surprised though, I've never come across this and I'm probably one of the most jumpy players out there :)

Hmm, yeah, I guess it's a function of wall jumping which I kind of understand.

It happens in places where I don't want it to though, like if the ground is sloping up a little or there is a tiny change in elevation. Or really there is anything going on except for a completely flat floor.

I don't understand why you would ever need to jump upwards...?

I haven't verified this yet, but it seems to me that you jump towards whatever you are looking at. So if you look up, you'll jump upwards.
