NS2 dedicated server time warp issues with KVM virtualized Windows Server 2008 R2 guest

Hiho,
I've recently set-up a Windows Server 2008 R2 guest to my libvirt/KVM virtualization solution, since the linux dedicated server option is STILL missing.
Unfortunately I've encountered a severe problem where the research and build times as well as infestation spread are suddenly jumping to ready/full in irregular intervals.
I could not find any issues with the timing or performance of the aforementioned WS2k8 instance and other servers I started as a test run without problems.
What is causing this behavior? Is there a way to fix this?
