I'll get excited in about 1.5 years when they announce the PC version as I am too cheap to own a console :(

Odd. I thought the PC version was releasing simultaneously with the console versions on Sep 17th? The 'no details about the PC version at this time' was back when they still expected a Spring 2013 release.

^Pc gamer just released an article assuming when the pc release date would be.

If they mess up the pc release though, they're going to hear havoc

Is it going to be a proper PC version or a very bad port like GTA IV :(

I know what I want the answer to be, but I fear reality.

I still don't know if this can top SA. One of the best games of all time. (IV was fucking awful).

I thought vice city was the best, IV had a really nice story for me. It's a very story driven game

At this point I'd take their scraps over nothing at all. I mean other games I would complain but GTA is fun and I refuse to play it on a console like what I did for IV. It was jaggy and looked pretty terrible.

I dunno, every GTA game for me is just me driving around on a motorcycle looking for "Insane Stunt Bonus" spots or just driving around listening to Lazlo's radio shenanigans :P Oh and occasionally shooting stuff or doing missions... I do miss the "Kill Frenzy!" bonuses from the earlier top down GTA's though :(

I'm still not convinced about GTAV. They're developing an open world game with a map 3x larger than RDR on consoles who's hardware is what, 7/8 years old now? That's extremely ambitious and cinematic trailers don't do the game justice. I'll wait till I see footage of the game actually running natively on a console

I'm pretty sure that's in-game footage with different camera angles and cut scenes

All cut extremely closely. How good is it going to look with a street full of traffic? What's the draw distance? What's the FPS?

As long as the game runs well on the PC they can gimp the console version all they want. But I do hope story telling doesn't get in the way of mindless violence.

One more reason I'm so frustrated with consoles holding back PC gaming. Too many devs start with the console and crap out a PC port, instead of starting with the PC version and cutting away until it can fit on years-old low-to-medium-spec hardware. Hell, take a look at the PC demo scene from the early 00's; most of them look as good as (if not better than) modern AAA games do, because they weren't cutting things down to fit into the filthy console gaming ghetto.

I keep wanting to really like the GTA series but the modern ones have a history of taking themselves too seriously and featuring a motley bunch of protagonists I struggle to relate to.

At least in the original you were a faceless anarchist with barely any direction given and tons of toys to play with. Now it just feels discordant as you go on about wanting to reform or how you want to start clean in some cutscene or other just after you've mowed down 15 people in your car then reversed over them several times just to be sure in actual gameplay.

I hope anyone who's been enjoying the recent ones enjoys this too but it's just not grabbing me and these trailers say "we wish we could have worked in television but we did this instead so we'll make it as close to television as possible" :/

Yea I struggled with this. GTA4 had the war veteran who wanted to start fresh but he ends up gunning down a few thousand people by the end of the game.

I was under the impression they weren't doing a PC version at all? That changed?

People overreacted/read too much into the answer to a question. The original statement was that they had no comment on a PC version at that time. Not that they weren't doing a PC version. This was also back when they planned on a Spring 2013 release.
PC version is currently scheduled to be released at the same time as the console versions, in September.

No it's not scheduled at all because there has been no announcement on the PC version. Yes, I understand your point about people over reacting and I agree, but there has been no confirmed mention of a PC version, just that it's under consideration.

Interesting. A few sites would appear to disagree with that.

Lots of sites literally just make up release days. If they haven't announced the PC version yet there's no reason to think this won't turn out like most other Rockstar games - late PC port.

I wonder why they do late bad PC ports. Gta started on the PC and the PS version was the one that released later. Other companies with games that are not as big as Rockstar release a PC version along with console versions. They know that they would make pretty good profits if they released a PC version at launch where the hype and advertising is at it's highest rather than later on when there is not as much interest.

Some combination of: They make more money off the console sales (less piracy), microsoy or sony pays them for a time based no-PC exclusive (so more copies are sold on console). In summary: $$$

Hmm about the piracy... Wasn't the PS3 hacked, sooooo..... Oh yeah "homebrew" :P

And as far as I know, PC market is still ~30% of the market share, so it would be rather silly cutting away a potential 30% of your profits, wouldn't it?

No, because they can port it to PC later.
