What you have learnt.
Do you play other multiplayer games differently since playing NS, like are you more teamplay oriented, leap around like a skulk more, etc?
nope. i ended up using up strats from other games to NS.
waiting in a dark corner, waiting for someone to walk past, then frag it in its back, be it with guns or teeth. what some in CS call "camping". :/
then its the "move-forward-and-hold-ground" i got from day of defeat. i played light infantry more often than not since, well, they cap flags better then any other class. and not to mention their rifles are nice to use long range, so it kinda becomes like a shootout. except the point is to make sure that the enemy will not be able to regroup, and also to ensure that groups of the enemy light infantry start ruining your defence with a single nade.... *boom*.
the "spook thy enemy" tactic as AVP predator. granted hes slow and moves with cloak enabled, he still can make marines jump by appearing seemingly out of nowhere, and lopping their heads of with his combistick. or the wristblades, if you feel really nasty.
Because of NS I tend to listen to movement sounds a lot more and search in dark places. Then again, going from NS to AvP2 isn't too much of a change when it comes to basic gameplay!
Problem with playing AvP2 after NSing for so long is I miss the buildings and upgrades! Especially the turrets and upgraded armor!! (Although the Primal Hunt Expension pack has sentry guns and exosuits) I still feel even more like canned meat...I also try to kill aliens with my knife and forget that the NS (not the AvP2) knife is much more powerful, thus getting my spleen handed to me. It's sad, really...
yeah i actually imported tactics from other games much like spai did. for example RAMBOing in DOD, a learned skill. if you're an MG undeployed in dod, your only hope to eliminate an oncoming troop or group is to lure them close to you, keep them in close quarters, dont give them the advantage of distance. as anyone who's played would know, undelplyed the MG shoots wildley, with no accuracy what-so-ever, and your only hope in using it successfuly to kill someone is to get them within say 5 feet, and just shoot in their direction.
theres a whole art to it. hide inside of buildings by the doorway, when you hear their footsteps prepare for them to come thru the door, as soon as they do, there's your 5-foot range, just blast in their general direction, and u win.
this is much the same with skulks, the most popular tactic is to climb on a wall outside of a door or walkway in NS. its the same general idea, the skulk can only successfuly attack at close range, so instead of moronically charging them from the end of a hallway, or in the case of DOD, walking straight thru an open area, where the enemy has the long range weapons and you're struggeling just to get close to them, you bring them to you, using your environment, and force them into close-range combat, invariably giving you the advantage.
which position would u rather be in? (assume skulks are facing the other direction )

Yeah, NS is pretty much my new master now...I haven't played any of my other games in the past two months because of it. And this coming from a FREE game!?! (Well, I had to get Half-Life, but I've had it for years now!) I'm having too much fun...
Hmm... Well, I'm an old CSer, and I played Quake TF for a few years before that... So I brought in a lot of tactics from that... I still lean towards CS fighting styles as a marine, firing in short bursts so the HUGE flare from the barrel doesn't obscure my aim...
But nothing compares to the simple pleasure of skulking... Hiding in a dark crevice, jumping down on packs of marines and biting their #&%^#ing heads off... Ahhhh, refreshing genocide...
Oh yeah... What I learned... Well, NS teaches you to be a lot more dependent on sound, as a few people have said... With a good pair of headphones, you can be accused of wallhacking on servers all over the world!
i play Ns like C&C but with out the tanks......get a basic base defence then get lods of R towers (Ore Refinerys) then go get two hive fast as i can (sit around the enemy base) then when i have enough RP's run in there base with all guns blazin!!

QUOTE (Rue @ Jan 4 2003, 03:50 AM)

i play Ns like C&C

yeah thats the idea. i can't even begin to think of how many times me and my friends have conversed about how awesome it would be to take a first person view of the world of C&C, and starcraft. c&c renegade gave it a shot, but there was no strat all vehicle whoring.
After starting NS , i stopped playing all other games, apart from TFC clan wars. I havent pubbed in TFC for about 2 months.
I have a counter-strike server 66.150.28.190:27100 The Soprano's, and when ever I see 2 marines, I mean CTS comming at me I try to climb the wall, oh and I used the knife abit much too, don't know why.

I don't link games. I play each game as if it is its own universe. No game for me crosses over. I don't see how any tactics i learn in WC3 having any relevance to the levels or the units and weapons of NS. No game is similar enough to give comparison between.
I dunno if you'd count this, but I often find myself trying to bring up the pop-up menu when I'm playing S&I with the pistol (which has no secondary fire) selected...
yes for sure i try to use teamplay and voice com alot more on DoD. also ive learnt to be more patient from NS, and it works well as get more kills. Also i storm harder like when im storming a fade or rushing skulks.
Sound is god Anger makes your score livid Death is not a option Bite it befor it shoots you Shoot befor it bites you Insanity is death Can they be around the corner? Run like hell Attack at will Ph33r the marine with the best stuff Oppose the enemy no matter what happens Never look back U must use stealth
I can't play an FPS now without stopping near every corner to listen for a "pitter patter" of skulk feet I got around to playing Deus Ex, which is one of the few FPS that actually relies a bit on sound. On the flip side, I've learned from Deus Ex that ducking = good.
I haven't brought much with me into NS, but brought a bit out again. Specifically how to graft teamwork out of sheer nothingness. Amazing how NS can teach a wild bunch of fierce individuals to at least superficially teamwork. They learn it the hard way by getting their noses bloodied.
Also firing in bursts Gone are the days when I just depress the mouse button and let my bullets fly. It's far too obstructive in a firefight, usually I let half my bullets hit walls or other marines in the back.
Oh, and when I see dark corners and perches in a game like CS, I tend to think of skulks though I am aware that none can get up there in this game
yea now i find myself sweeping the roofs in DoD when i know theres nothing there, lol. Also i have turned my sensitivity up in NS cause u need to turn around alot more for skulks. i am getting used to this which is good, bbut u still need a steady hand for long range.
