The reason you don't know what the Big Unannounced System is, is because they've never announced it. And the reason they've never announced it is that they haven't abandoned it (or maybe they did announce it and nobody cared, hell if I know).
Oh wait I know what is going on here! They are taking a page out of Valve's book! In a few hours they are going to announce how soon in the future they will be making an even bigger announcement!!!!111

Maybe it won't be content at all. But bug fixes! Hopefully for the gun jams, bile sound effects on phase, or animations and sounds replaying if you scroll from and back the same area in top down perspective, or arc trains being a complete mess.
A gun jam fix alone would be worth this announcement ..

It should be any minute now unless they have their timezones mixed up
Which if you look at their twitter post it says 2 hours to go, and that was an hour ago...
But their twitter post also said 12 pm PST (12:02 PST now). Maybe they didn't account for daylight savings
Because the female marine was supposed to appear way back in the alpha/early beta but disappeared as the quailty and detail of the model were not up to the caliber of the male marine. They had shown the concepts for it but it was shelved to devote more resources to other art tasks (structure models, environment art etc) in order to get the game in a more releasable state and not stay in development limbo until the end of time.
While I was actually expecting them to keep this one under wraps until the next content patch was about to make an appearance this is good to see. They made a promise and they kept it. This is a excellent thing and worth hyping.
