Really pat? Anything that gives u a unfair edge over anyone, changing skins and models so u can see them glow or anything is cheating.
Also if a rookie starts using things like this, they never stop.
So? A lot of competitive players use monitors that give them distinct advantages in seeing aliens. Green skulks actually even the playing field for those without great hardware.
So if my keyboard is missing keys and my mouse loses power for five seconds every minute, I'm entitled to use macros and aimbot to even the playing field?
@casan0vax Awesome vids! You've obviously put a lot of hard work into producing them, and actually covered a lot of ground in that half hour. I must admit, I don't currently use the map to get my bearings quickly when being beaconed: that's a really good tip!
Add another tip: When the game spawns you looking at the ground, use the map to get your bearing as well.
I really enjoyed it. I have done some of these techniques through muscle memory alone and cant explain it to friends. I will try out the peripheral vision tracking in my own play and see if it helps.
Not going to lie... i was looking for my name in there because i know i have played with/against you. You picked a good alien.. Villain hehe for your video. He is a good fade and i tend to seek him out... usually resulting in dying faster. Great video and please do more. This was professional, easy to understand, and covered everything. I wish i could offer my hand to help, but all i know is NS2 hehe.

That's an excellent video tutorial, @casan0vax, both for new players and possibly for me as well. I never heard of the peripheral tracking method, so once I can get back to playing the game I'll definitly give that a go.
Wow thanks for the response and suggestions guys, I'm definitely keeping a note of things. I wasn't expecting that great a reception honestly, but in any case, I haven't played NS2 in a few days and am chomping at the bit (literally?) to get started on Aliens 101--my rough ETA on that is, hopefully, next weekend-ish. But no promises :x
Thanks, and hopefully I'll see you guys in-game when I'm recording
so back on topic, i would say the best way to teach new players is not through these videos, but through getting them green skulks. It really does improve the gameplay in many ways for marines, especially newer ones or ones that don't have the necessary hardware to spot skulks well.
if the mods wish to have a discussion on the point that's one thing, but censorship is a stupid response and implies that the arguments against it are weak.

Hi there, one of the admins of the NSL, the competitive league for NS2. We enforce enhanced consistency checks on all our servers and require any server running official matches to use the same consistency checks. Green neon skulks is definitely a no no in our league. I wouldn't suggest any new person, learning the game, to use them to gain an advantage.
As for soz, I haven't had a chance to watch the video, but thanks for the initiative. You and the other video posters you mentioned in your OP are an asset to the community. Kudos.

i've been doing it a lot longer than you and i don't need to resort to blatant censorship. maybe i could teach you a thing or two.
I dont think its to do with censorship, you a promoting cheating, no matter how u like to look at it or think about it, using anything that alters your gamestate to give u an advantage over any other player is cheating. Now lets get back on topic and keep it there.
This is an excellent video. Only suggestion is to add time tabs in the info section so that anyone may skip from one section to another for quick reference. Looking forward to alien101.
People are buying specific types of monitors so they can see skulks better than other players?
Wow. That's actually kind of sad.
I had this monitor previously and have still yet to use this feature, I only changed it to be more colorful .. still never used all of the 'gaming' features for it lol.. I should probably get on that cause it'll help a lot in counter-strike

Two things
1) If you're at a point where you can choose to aim ahead or behind a moving skulk, good for you, and aim behind. Not ahead. In real life I see the relevance of that, but because of latency you will actually hit more bullets behind the target, so you might as well lag, not lead your shots
2) Omg. I started playing ns2 on release day after not playing video games for 5-6 years since ns1. I forgot I used to aim my shotgun like that (a skill I also learnd in cs1.6)... It's already helped my twitch doing that with lmg AND sg. It let's you really take note of what's happening as opposed to the constant tracking.
So while nothing else was new to me in your video, it's awesome that it was still a huge help. At some point every little tip counts!
--Really great job with the video. I loved fade breakdown, so important to think like that as a new player. That they can kill a fade by being smart if not with aim skills they just don't have yet

cheating is a far more grey area than you give it credit for
that definition of cheating is incredibly narrow and you'd basically be calling a large portion of the playerbase cheaters with it. I dare say that you probably haven't given much thought to the topic.

Very helpful video, even for advanced players. It's the tiny bits of information like "skulks get spotted on the map if you have it open" that give you the edge over an average player.
It would be nice to have a short summary in the end, though. Maybe a list of the most important things. But apart from that: Awesome!

but then again they might have a new flavor of balance whenever, so who knows
of course.
vision-based mechanics have never worked... why would NS2 be any different if people still control things like gamma/colors/etc.?
this is what happens when you release a competitive game without any real UI customization

I found the idea of looking slightly behind a skulk you're tracking with an LMG to use peripheral vision especially interesting.
Please also do a guide to jetpack and exo (as marine weapons) some time.
