Flashing black boxes - most often as marine or skulk

Hi everybody.
Sometimes when I play a lot of black boxes flash very quickly on my screen at somewhat random locations (only stay there 1 frame and is gone the next) but can show up at the same location multiple times.
I don't know if it is some kind of UI element that goes haywire. The bug most often happens when playing marine, but also sometimes as a skulk.
I have tips turned off.

Windows 7 Pro
Intel Core i7-3770 3.40 GHz
8 GB RAM
NVidia GeForce GTX 670 - very recent drivers

I don't have many programs running in the background, if any it is Pidgin IM and Spotify.
I can't really tell if it helps closing all running programs or not. It shouldn't really mess with a fullscreen 3D game.

Do you get any errors in the console when this happens? (~ key)
Do you have texture streaming on?
    Can you nab a pic?

Sorry for the bad video quality:
    http://www.andersriggelsen.dk/uploads/ns2/blackboxes.mov

Edit: It seems that the frequency of the black boxes is lower when the rifle is firing.
It could be because of the firesprite or because of the slight screen shake effect.

No, no errors in the console it seems.

What is weird is that GUI elements does not seem to be affected by this as they appear above the flashing black boxes. I had this happen in the launch-screen as well with the 3D background and the black boxes appearing behind the "Natural Selection 2" logo/graphic.

Sometimes they are not entirely black but can completely mask out all other color channels other than blue for example (visible at 10 seconds into the video on the rifle).

No other games have this issue.

cant imagine what it would load on those spots.
Did you update your graphics driver?

That *looks* like overlays occurring or some background windows left up.
Does your webcam have software that runs in the background?

Try disabling everything in the background.. especially things that have overlays.. NS2 doesnt work well with overlays

My webcam does have software that runs in the background but it doesn't have an overlay feature (not that I'm aware of).
I'm running NS2 through Steam though and Steam has it's own overlay.

I'm not sure how overlays work internally but I'm suspecting that they attach themselves to some OpenGL framebuffer. That could explain why the black boxes appear below the UI elements rendered in NS2 as they are drawn on top of the 3D content that is most likely rendered into a framebuffer for post-processing before being rendered back onto the screen.

I will see if I can disable the steam overlay feature in some way and try to disable my webcam software and see if that helps.

    Steam overlay won't effect ns2.
    But every other will ;-)
