Flayra has very clearly stated NS is not about gore. Argue away though guys, keep it nice <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

i think maybe a few blood splats, or at least an option to turn gore on or off would be great

I dont think our opinions matter here. Flayra has specifically stated that gore wont be in NS so i dont see why people care to comaplain about it. It wont be in NS live with it.

Voogru servers have gibs, like normal Half-Life. Pretty cool too, as a Fade if you gib somone those suckers go a good 10-20 feet.

Well, I don't mind gore really, but it'll be just a nifty effect wich will be forgotten pretty soon.

I wouldn't mind seeing a marines head bitten of by a skulk tho. But after 1234324321 times, I wouldn't notice anymore.
Besides, we wouldn't like to give the 12yr olds among us nightmares, now do we?

i wonder sometimes why the same topics get discussed so many bloody times...
and somehow..they are the ones that get absolutely no-where...

I think it's <b>refreshing</b> to see the Marines not have gore come out of them. Gore is so overdone these days. Gore doesn't make the game. It's also gore that brings in CS lamers (not the cool people who actually have common sense that play CS, but those lamers).

I for one have never seen the use of excessive gore in games. A small amount helps with identifying a hit, but with marines that's been replaced with sparks, still effective. Beyond that point, the only reason is eye candy, and I don't think blood is all that appealing to look at. If it's there I don't mind it but don't feel the need for it. If it isn't, that's also fine with me.

I like a certain amount of gore. I like the DoD kinda gore. It really isnt too much but you do see a few arms, legs and helmets every once in a while. However if NS doesnt have gore Im not gonna freak out. Ill just play w/o it. Aint no big deal. Death animations tho are a must.....well...not a urgent must but a must nonetheless. I can barely wait until Flayra and Co. put them in. Hopefully 1.1 they will have all the probs figured out.

    NS has no gore?
    Odd I never noticed.

The only 'gore' I really thought was cool is the single player Jedi Knight 2 stuff, I mean c'mon slicing arms and legs off it just looks so cool <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

As this isn't possible in NS I really don't care attal, as for noticing a hit they should put a sound effect in so you know when you've hit, its easier to notice and won't block your view. (any sound effect although personally I'd prefer an 'ouch' to a 'dink!'.

I never see any sparks fly of the marines...

Personally, I'd like to see gore; but only in level design.

Imagine a marine walking down a hallway, seeing another marine's gun and hand sticking out from a doorway. "Cool! There's a teammate! I'll go help cover him!" the marine thinks. As he runs around he finds the marine has been bitten in half and the top half is slumped against the wall... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

It's all about the ambience and the scariness.

You obviously havent played ut2k3 ;D. It has tons of gore, and even individual gibs.

But as for NS, we dont really need it, besides it wouldnt come off too well on the halflife engine. Unless they used some sort of particle system of thier own like the phase gates or something.

But like someone said earlier we need some animations ie, bite animations and such, but its cool if the devs take thier time. No rush.

If you notice when you shoot at a skulk (maybe others too, i can't remember) green blood will spew out on the wall behind it. I would like to see just a little blood left behind for the marines. Not for the gore factor but for gameplay's sake. Not that its a big deal, but sometimes it helps.

Example: You are on your way to a waypoint when you see in the top right corner of your screen that [CFH] Lucid just killed an alien. But then an alien kills him right after! Then continuing on, you find some alien blood on the wall and you think, "uh oh, that alien must be close".

    But thats just one example.

I would like to see an idication that I have hit a marine as a skulk.
  • TrikkTrikk Join Date: 2002-11-22 Member: 9606Members
The marines could lose a limb after each bite, Monty Python-style.

I don't need more blood or gibs, but you can never get too much EXPLOSIONS! Skulks exploding, marines exploding, buildings exploding, hallways exploding! No game is playable without explosions and exploding objects. I know there's a grenade launcher, but we need MORE!

And also, hit sounds won't happen probably, since the dev team seems to dislike anything "quakeish". <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

Hell, why not just make the game all explosion all the time? You join a server and everyone explodes every five seconds after spawn taking out anything within a 5x5 grid area.

Gore in games like UT2k3 is kinda overdone (blowing people's torsos off, etc). But if there was ever location based damage in NS I'd like to see some dismemberments. You know how cool it was when Aragorn cut off the orc chief's head (end of lotr1 movie). A fade coming in a slicing off the head of a squadmate is... just kind of cool, in the scary NS-way.

Play UT2k3 Redeemer Arena in the 2k3 version of Morbias (can't remember the name, it's just a big 'ol room with a Unreal damage in the middle, and RLs all over the place) <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

That's just your opinion. In my personal opinion, I don't really care for gore too much...it's unnecessary and doesn't really add anything to the game...except a few FPS hits, so whats the point?

I'd think it would be funny to see the gorge go *splat*

    but then thats just me.... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

The point is some people just like a little dressing on thier games. Just like you enjoy ns's particle system but you know you dont really NEED it.

It would just be there for looks.
