UDPSoft maintains servers that do the majority of the scanning grunt work for you. This is why ASE is so fast. Running said service costs them money, so they obviously ask for a little money in return. Not all software can be free-as-in-beer. I'm glad I had the option to pay them $10 instead of having ads or spyware crammed down my throat.

You guys actually had to PAY for using tASE? Odd... I thought you only had to pay to registrate(which wouldn't do very much, except you would always be prioritized when the scanning servers are overloaded and you can have any number of buddies[and probably more that I dont know about])...

Well, I used to use the 'ole in-game browser thingy/crap.

Then I switched to GS, which SUCKED!

Then I switched to my online buddys who gave me IP's to type in console (connect bl.ah.bl.ah.!!)

Now I have ASE, and it's a dream. Didn't pay a dime for it, no sir-e. It gives me scanner load probs sometimes, and reminders once in a while but overall it's great. Fast, reliable.

    My approval folks.

I use ASE too.... best one I've ever seen, plus its constantly being updated.

2 days after NS came out they had a patch for it.

Use what you want, I've got the eye.

    (and it's free)

    (NO ADS)

it will be pretty tough to beat hlsw though. It is pretty much an awsome compact program.
