Vent-warping drifters????

Testing my greyboxed map right now, and I noticed something peculiar...

If I order a drifter to go directly beneath a vent, then, once it's there, I order it to move into the vent directly above it, it just shoots straight up into the vent! It can't go anywhere in there, as any orders will send it back down to ground level. BUT... and I haven't been able to reproduce this... BUT... the VERY FIRST time it happened, the drifter shot up into the vent, WENT OVER A WALL, and came running back to where it started. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do about this. I have vents marked to not have the pathing generated in them, and indeed (in the editor at least) there is no pathing mesh in the vents, yet drifters can still warp into them!

Has anybody encountered this before, and/or knows what to do about it? I can't have drifters jumping up into vents.

I've seen a similar thing happen occasionally, both on my map and others. A drifter will end up on top of a pillar or arch or something (so it might not be vent-specific) and then go back down when I order it elsewhere. Dunno about a fix though, not that I've really tried to find one yet.

you can check in game to see if they have nav mesh using nav_debug. It will draw blue rectangles in areas pathed entities can go.

Sadly in terms of mitigation, I haven't done enough in mapping in ns2 to help at all:(

Oh okay, I'll try out that command. Thanks!

Well it didn't help me fix the vent problem. Drifters can still go up into vents, and there's no nav mesh up there... It DID show me that I forgot to re-generate the nav mesh though...

Fixed it! I guess the only course of action is to add those vents to the "CommanderInvisibleVents" group. Still, kinda stinks that if you've been in the comm chair, those vents still appear invisible even when on the ground... but hopefully that gets fixed soon, it affects Descent as well (vent in mono)

Try adding collision geometry around the vent entrance.

No no you misunderstand me. What was happening wasn't that drifters were entering the vents, they were literally moving STRAIGHT UP into an overhead vent, ie through the floor of the vent. The fix is to just make the overhanging part of the vent invisible to the commander so they can't order the drifter into the vent.
