[LINUX] Black screen systematically after precaching

BurukunBurukun Join Date: 2013-09-03 Member: 187737Members
Hey everyone,

First of all I apologize for my poor english.
I'll try my best effort to write a good post.

Since I have bought NS2 on Steam, it never launch on my desktop.
Systematically when I launch the tutorial or the game, I have a black screen after precaching.

It seems I can't move in the game, but when I quit the game by clicking on cross window, I heard the exit sound.
So the game don't freeze.

I have do multiple tests with this properties :
- No mods
- No subscription on workshop
- All the default parameter excepted the resolution : 1280x800 Windowed

I have do these tests :
- With a fresh install
- After delete the game by Steam, and the ~/.config/Natural Selection 2, and reinstall NS2
- After delete the shaders repertory and the ~/.config/Natural Selection 2, and verifying the game integrity by Steam
- After delete the shaders repertory, lua repertory and the ~/.config/Natural Selection 2, and verifying the game integrity by Steam

In all these tests, I have always a black screen after precaching.

You find in this post :
- my configuration
- the log.txt in attachement
- a link to a video show the loading map, the black sceen and the log.txt refreshing : http://ubuntuone.com/5hfr4SyDEZfFz2QIL75ucr

You have an idea to resolve this bug ?

    Hey,

    Anyone have an idea ?

I would try starting steam with LANG=en_US
Also your driver seems a bit old you may want to update it.

If neither of those help you might try removing ns2/lua and core/lua and verifying your cache

You defiantly have a translation problem, the game is right now just working in English so Confused comment will help.

And you driver is really old for gaming newer is most of the time better, but first fix the language issue and if you have still/new problems an update of nvidia can help (http://packages.debian.org/experimental/nvidia-driver).

    Hey Everyone,

Thanks for your reply Confused and Badevil.

I have test your purpose on a fresh installation (after delete the game by Steam, and the ~/.config/Natural Selection 2).
So I have upgrade my nvidia drivers (to the lastest version, v313.30) and I have started steam with LANG=en_US.

    And it works very well.

    Thanks a lot.

I have tested to start steam without the LANG=en_US, and I reproduce the same bugs even with the laster drivers.
Thus for the people who have the same problem, try to launch steam with this command : LANG=en_US steam
