Build 255 Stuttering

I'm still having stuttering every time I enter a new room, or a player does something like jump or shoot (or whatever), or whenever I spot an Alien (or Marine for that matter). I even tried by setting my video configuration to the lowest, and lowering my resolution to 640x480, still, no improvement or whatsoever. Also tried all those fixes the community posted, but without any luck.
I remember playing NS2 without any problem, almost everything maxed out, before all this Linux compatibility project.. And I still have the same rig.

PS: I know there's another post talking about fixes, but this is for the devs to know that 255 didn't really help. And not just me, a friend of mine is still having crashes and micro-stuttering (not as badly as I do).

.. Thanks for being trying though, seriously.

What renderer are you using, kinda helps to know that.

I've tried with all of them, DX11, 9, and OpenGL. Honestly I've tried every possible configuration. Even reinstalled the game twice, defragmented my hard disk, and made a whole clean up of my registry. Drivers are up to date (I'm using an ATI HD6770), and for the rest of my rig I wouldn't worry as I could play it without any problems before these updates for Linux came out.

PS: Maybe it'll help to figure out a common pattern.

    ASUS M5A87
    AMD FX4100 3.6Ghz
    4GB Ram ddr3 2000mhz
And as I said an ATI HD 6770 1gb.

Before anyone* says "BUT BRO, YOU NEED TO ADD MORE RAM", I've got a friend that has the same problems as I (except that his stuttering isn't as annoying as mine) that plays with 8gb of ram.

    *fixed typo

Well, fullscreen is fixed on DX9. Might be a problem with your configuration, I don't know. But I can tell you, and show you with proof that it's fixed again.

Did you try DX9 AND fullscreen, not fullscreen windowed, or windowed?

Indeed. Full Screen DX9 was fixed, not windowed for DX9. Please try that. DX11 will be fixed for the next patch.

I had it on fullscreen windowed. Fullscreen helped a bit actually, now the game is more stable, but the stuttering persist, mainly whenever I enter a prop dense room. Or when an Alien/Marine attacks me (sounds like a lame excuse but it's true..)

Fullscreen crashed the first time today for me, but in a way that I couldn't run techsupport :(
    Well trying Windowed next time.

Did you try typing 'r_mt false' in the console yet RetroRebel? For some people it helps. It makes sure multithreading is disabled which might-not-be-so-compatible with your GPU

Did everything that was posted in this forum, and on steam's. That, by the way, just got banned:
You have been banned from all Natural Selection 2 discussions until 13 Sep 2013 @ 3:45pm.
    You were banned by Comprox.
Reason: "You really Godwin Law'd that one."

So much for support and freedom of speech. Nice costumer support UWE. Let's silence those who speak against us, even if they're right.. Reminds me of how dictatorships work.

PS: Even worse, I haven't been offensive with anyone, just pointed out some facts, like how most of the steam community needed some official response. And how all these new linux project screwed almost everybody else. I understand that there's so much that a small dev team can do in due time, but muting people for pointing out facts, it's a lame way of treating your costumers.

turn off visual themes and windows aero from ns2.exe, that fixed pretty much every issue (dx9 fullscreen)
  • RetroRebelRetroRebel Join Date: 2013-09-05 Member: 187819Members
Thanks for your answer bro but, I've already tried everything possible. The last thing that I've tried (setting it back to fullscreen) actually helped a bit but not enough to be playable.
I'm surprised they haven't yet muted me as they did thrice in steam's forums for no good reason other than "Goldwin's law".

Stop being generally abusive and you won't have any problems.
I mean really.. are you seeking help or just raging? You can't do both, treating people abuseively who are attempting to help you and then claiming "freedom of speech" (which does not legally apply to private forums, btw) just doesn't work.
    Pick one.

Now.. enough of that drama. If you are seeking help, lets get down to it:

Please provide your techsupport.exe zip results so we can see what you are running and what errors if any are occurring.
Be sure no overlays are running in the background. This means no mumble, no MSI afterburner, no AV, nothing. Overlays do not play well with NS2.
Next up if you've done that is to try some advanced diagnostics.
Follow these instructions and provide a screenshot of this hitches. If u need further help with the instructions feel free to ask.

Bro, I haven't been abusive with anyone. All I said is that we (Steam community) felt like left in the void, and called JaqarII a white knight (that's what he's been doing since ever) and compared what he does with what the Jewish police did in that horrible years of the Nazi government, which, applies on how he acts. Leaving that aside, I'll do what you said hopefully my problems will open a whole new window of fixes for the community.

PS: JaqarII never really tried to help, actually. I appreciate you doing so, though.

    Edit: Here's the tech_support.zip: http://www.mediafire.com/?w8kjyj8r3bdo0b8
I'll begin trying with those instructions you provided, thanks.

Edit 2: Here's the best I could do, hope it's enough. I really couldn't figure out how to select the spiked bars:

I renamed your thread to something more descriptive.
I need you to run that tech support again, after joining an actual game.
Bots are HIGHLY resource intensive (and it worsens with the # you spawn) and do not provide a good testing environment.
Meaning, even 4.5ghz CPUs with 680GTX GPUs will still choke on 24 bot servers they make.

So yea, join an actual public game with over 10 people if you can and then quit and run that techsupport exe again please. (you can attach the zip to your post, you dont have to upload elsewhere)

Well, once again I couldn't figure out how to switch bars, hope it still gives you the info needed. (My keyboard configuration is for spanish, maybe my [] are assigned to different keys than yours)
http://s22.postimg.org/eui2q7onl/Untitled.jpg (Had to join an international server because the one from my country was empty, so exclude the latency factor if it's of any significance at all)

And here it is the tech_support.zip:

PS: Thanks for the swift responses.

Edit: If it helps, the stutter happens mainly when I enter a new room, or when more than two characters appear suddenly (it has happened with only one, too, but not as badly as to keep me from shooting/biting)

@retrorebel damn, yeah i need those bars to move over to that giant spike you caught.
Hrrmmm... the new input handling system (SDL) has temporarily disabled support for non american keyboards unfortunately. Its known though.

I hate to ask.. but could you try pressing every key until you find the one that is able to move that bar onto the spike? :) hehe

edit: Also, after you enter the ready room, type in the console (~key) : r_loading true as well as loadtimes true
If you can type in game "hitch" when it happens to mark the spot in the logfile.. that would be even more helpful for spotting the issue.
    Thanks and goodluck

(btw all this is assuming that you are running the bare minimum in the background.. no "advanced system care" or Anti virus, or DVD writing software or any other funky programs.)

Alright I'll give it a try as soon as I get home. All these logs are with all closed except steam, I've also turned off AVG real-time protection, just in case.
By the way, I tried to play with Game Booster on and it made it somewhat more smooth than before, the stuttering now is about less than a second in most cases.

RetroRebel, I follow this thread with big expectations. I have exactly the same problem like you. Stuttering when other player are around me or when i enter a room.

Sorry had some terribly busy days. I've tried every key on my keyboard with no success, can't find a key to change the selected bar. But I got some good results with the tech_support.zip, got some good stutters in critical situations (like when an onos charges me or a skulk jumps to my face lol) and pointed all of them out with "hitch". Hope it helps.
    Thanks

@retrorebel Aw man you're gonna hate me for saying this.. but .. i don't think you typed in the right commands given there's no feedback/read out from the console saying you entered those commands successfully (one of those commands should)

You go from loading into the game to hitching.. but there's nothing saying "logging enabled" etc.

Just reiterate: Be sure once you have entered the Ready Room, enter in the console (the ~ key) and type the following:
    r_loading true
    loadtimes true

hit enter after typing each one, there should be some sort of print out, like i said.
Then repeat exactly the same thing.. and upload the zip.
Sorry this is 2/2 not working correctly.. :-/
    Thanks tho for your patience
