[Linux] Fails to recognize that Steam is running when started from the command line

With build 258 I could start the game from the command line so as to set limit -c unlimited, letting me get core dumps for backtraces without attaching gdb. You're going to get more backtraces from me if I don't have to deal with generating them at the moment the game dies because I just want to get back into the game and generate the backtraces from the core dumps later.

I have found that it can be a bit weird about determining if steam is running.
If it happens again kill the terminal that is running shell-i386.sh make sure steam is running and then restart and it seems to help. I have had cases where running steam multiple times causes the sdk to fail to find the running steam instance.
