Black screen after launch

Hi,
After launching the game from steam the computer locks up with a black screen on both of my monitors.
I've searched in a few threads like this, but I've found no fix yet.

Things I've tried:
verifying the game files;
editing the system_options.xml

The system options file you send is full of null as well.
It seems like the whole thing is causing a bad time.
Try this as system_options.xml

should run things in windowed mode and let you see if there are any other things going on.
The fix from confused has made it work!
