Hey there, I'm having some problems with the game starting since I try too play it again.

Some explanations:

I have played NS2 for like 70 hours and i really like the game, i havn't played it since 2 months at least I guess and now i tried too play it again. Well, there is just the problem that I can't even start it anymore, if I try to start it via the steam shortcut there is not even something like a white/blackscreen, nothing happens, steam switches from "not in game" to "ingame" and like 13 secs later back to "not in game". I also tried to start it via the steam folder, not even once, like in all options there like, run as admin, compatibilit and all other.

I tried everything there was on steam i found, like deleting the cache, reinstalling, permissions, nuking the game and reinstalling, like everything...

I looked trough the forum here and found some problems wich looked like mine, but no solution worked..

So what i did:

.)reinstalling
.)delete everything from %appdata% and steamfolders -> reinstalling
.)copy the shaders from core to ns2
.)reinstalling DirectX
.)updated my video card driver
.) i searched for the system_options.xml too reset the start parameters, but since the first reinstall the appdata folder is empty
.) i copied the files in appdata from a friend and watched what happend -> same prob
.) deleted all .dll files from common/natural selection 2 and watched what happend -> update.dll ist the last thing that gets loaded till the "nothing happens" all .dll files that get loaded till update.dll work i guess
.)took a update.dll from a friend and watched what happend -> same prob
.)starting the NS2.exe with -admin -compatibility

now i don't have any ideas left what i can do, i tried i think every known solution from here and the steam forum, nothing works :/

I have an:

AMD Phenom II x4 955 Processor 4x3,2 GHz
6 GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6850 1GB
SSD Harddrive (tried to install it on my HDD as well)
2 Monitors 1280x1024 (tried to unplug the second)

the Techsupport.exe showed nothing in my eyes, but i can upload it if neccesary

Sorry for my bad englisch, i hope somebody can help me :)

May sound weird but do a full nuke of ns2 again: http://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/131428/obby-s-full-nuke-ns2-guide-only-way-to-be-sure

    After that run techsupport.exe again.

What happens if you start the game directly via the ns2.exe? Somehow ns2 doesn't even create a log. This seems to be a issue with either a background sofware or any hardware driver.

If I start it via the game folder the same things happen, the Taskmanager shows that the programm trys to start (the ns2.exe gets started) but nothing opens no window nothing and like 10-12 secs later the ns.exe is closed again, the strange thing is i played ns2 like 70 hours in steam and it worked just fine, i changed not a single hardware part and my system just gets upgraded with security updates, i tried to start without firewall too, nothing changes :(

So, the fact that it crashes before it gets to trying to setup a render device means that we are probably missing something the engine depends on here.

I would guess that visual c++2005 somehow got uninstalled. Or something else, like antivirus, is closing the program. From here it is hard to check that sort of thing. I would try re installing the c++ library and killing as many programs as you can before running the game.

I think i figured out whats wrong, the WerFault.exe keeps starting within the same time as NS2.exe, so i think its my windows that keeps on blocking something, if i find out whats the problem i will post it here :)

    PROGRESS, at least something

Well werfault is the windows error reporter service, so it still could be a crash.

You can try turning it off if you would like:

Control panel -> Administrative tools -> services

Find the windows error reporting service
    Set Startup to disabled

Retry ns2 and see what happens

    But as you say, progress!

Well, i turned off the windows error reporting service and werfault keeps starting together with ns2.exe :(

Try a full driver sweeper to completely nuke all of your video card drivers, then install a driver a few versions back that is known to be stable. or just the latest. Important part is sweeping possibly conflicting drivers.

The ultimate solution is to reinstall windows but that can be a drag depending.
