i dont seem to be able to balance the r-speeds for both normal players and the commander guy?i see that the mod enviroument requires alot of eye candey right? and that means some more details in the map..and i dont only have to worry about the player view r-speeds but also the updown view for the commander..its near impossible!

Mapping for NS certainly is quite a challenge. Definitely the hardest game I've ever attempted it on... all the various things that must be considered... It's just frustrating at some times...

About r_speeds, You do know that there is a fairly higher limit for the commander, don't you? Check the top post in this forum if ya don't. I think it's around 1000 or so...

is 1300 too high for the commander? also for the players a FEW places are near 800?

"R_speeds (w-polys) in Natural Selection maps should be below 700 at all times. In heavy traffic areas and areas where heavy combat is expected, the r_speeds should not stray above 600 at any point, and they should not average more than 500. Commander mode can have a bit lower performance than on the ground, and must never exceed r_speeds of 1000, with the average being closer to 700."

Note that some exceptions can be made here, in the case of really wonderful maps.  However, your r_speeds can't EVER go over 1000, as that's where software cuts out.

I thought the most poly's that Software would render was 800?

I also thought that NS did not work with Software any way?

As far as I know only env_fog is not compatible with software mode.

env_fog is only compatible with OpenGL, but as the Guidelines state, it should only be used in a fashion that does not affect gameplay in any way.

NS will support Software rendering. The present build of the NSTR does not, however.
