Useing Phase Gates In 1.04

<div class="IPBDescription">whats's your opinion?</div> My favorite new feature in 1.04 is having to press your use key to phase.

For these reasons:

1. you don't acidentally phase while trying to bite a phase
2. you can get off at the right stop as a marine
3. you won't get stuck with another marine (although you can dtill get "telefragged")

what do you guys think? I think most people like or would like it, but i know theres a few angry people out there. Try not to go off-topic with gripes about other 1.04 stuff.

    seeing as how Phase are more of a hindrance since a skulk can hop on one and get instant travel between whatever two points you hoped to link, I don't think it matters much anymore

    Phase are for locking down, and a dangerous tactic if 5 skulks suddenly jump the phase into your main spawn and take it as though it were there own, your spawn that is

    For us skulks dancing through the turrets to take out the phase gate, this change is an immense blessing.

    I have got one complaint, that is, when you're building it and finish, you often forget to release the build button, resulting in a phase. Apart from that, I like.

    I've noticed that as a gorge, when building Movement chambers, there's a little bit of a delay from when the tower goes up to when you can actually zap around with it. Maybe that should be put in?

    Anyway, I like the idea of having to use Phases, it was a pain to go by your stop and have to cycle all the way around again. Or accidentally phase into a base full of Marines when you just wanna take the pesky Phase out.

    While just walking into the phase gates was more natural, I think having to 'use' phase gates is more functional and makes the actual use of them less stressful.

    The only problem is every game, some guy yelling "Phase is down!" and having to explain to him his error (they phase back to base after building it, accidentally cause they were holding use to build, then they try and get back and don't know about the update, hehe.)

    Yeah, this change owns.

    anyways this use thing is great. Did you figure out how to make less telefrags? I dont think i've had one yet with the use key.. Although a few times i've been stuck in someone else but never killed.. I just use phase again and we are "unstuck"

    well you might say, how would an old phase gate know you we're all the way in? Why wouldn't it start phasing you when you only got your right leg in.     ya I remember one game of 1.04:

    "OMG H4X!! the phase gate doesn't work"
    "You have to use it"
    "I'm trying to use it!!"
    "No you have to press your use key"
    "Oh .... cool!"

    "Why can't I build this phase gate"
    "it is built. it won't light up til there is a second phase gate"
    "oh .... cool!"

    "ok guys, build that second armory, I'm going to upgrade the other one"
    "uh, comm, this is 1.04, an upgrading armory gives out ammo"

    I think the adjustments to the phase in 1.04 are all good. It's glad to hear Flayra plans on fixing the 'finish building and phase' thing because that is an unfourtunate side effect.

    It appears that a two-second delay has been placed on phasing in 1.04c, and the delay on the movement chambers has been changed slightly. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    To be honest I didn't really care about the insta-phase. It was handy for my usual emergency escape from the claws of doom who weer about to turn me into salad.

    Now I have a split second less time to escape (have to press a button, yaknow).


    Another thing I'm worried about is the Kharaa phasing. Do they need to press use as well? I always run into a marine outpost, jump their phase (avoiding turret fir) and munch on the CC. If I have cant use the phase anymore, it would be a lot harder for me to take out the CC.

    If there are only 2 phase gates up, you telefrag anyone standing on the phase as you arrive.

    Nice change - neither side likes to phase inadvertantly. I would still like to see a change so that aliens cannot use the phase gates, though. After all, marines don't heal at hives or d-chambers - why should aliens get to use marine buildings?

    bah, I don't really like having to use the phase. If you step onto the portal, you get transported. it's a low platform ... for a reason. Hmm, it just kind of detracts from the atmosphere a little, IMO.
