I declare this commander biggest knucklehead EVER!
I joined a server with a game in progress (about 10 minutes or so). The very first thing that I hear is some annoying guy whining for the commander to "give us stuff" and he keeps doing it, so I get on the voice chat and tell him to stuff it already. It turned out the commander was literally dropping NOTHING (aside from a few structures in base). He was pretty skimpy on commands too, so we all just milled around telling the commander to freaking command already. Finally, we get to about 400 res and he dumps HA and HMGs all over the place and tells us to go kill the hive. Which hive? He wouldn't specify.

Guilty as charged. I guess I expect too much of my marines...

    "comm give me HMG"

    "no, go out and fight"

    "comm HMG at basee!"

"no! go here NOW!" <sets waypoint>

    "not going without HMG"

... and so forth. I've also received a lot of heat after taking an abandoned chair amidst a base in shambles and.. magically.. not being able to pull off a win. I guess replacement commanders are meant to make miracles out of mush.

Of course llamas will always love NS. You know why? You can go comm, or say "eject comm" and people will eject him, then you sell all the stuff, and build a bunch of unsellable CC's. If there was some fix to this, that would be great.

Ah, I remember a game where I did just that. It was actually pretty fun too.

I was commanding a team of 14 marines and they started whining for their equipment. So I finally gave in and pandered to the little newbies who were constantly asking for weapons. I drop a bunch of heavy armor, a couple of jetpacks, a couple of GL's, quite a few HMG's, and whole heck of a lot of welders. I tell them to go secure atmospheric processing again, and half the team goes. I think the other half were staring at their new guns or something. Anyhow, the small group of marines that went were soon killed because of no support, and the other marines in base eventually wandered off one by one to their imminent doom. After that happened, I told everyone that I was no longer dropping weapons until EVERYONE attacked atmospheric processing. Of course, nobody but a few people actually attacked. The rest of the team complained about how I was a bad comm for not giving them more toys to go and waste. They later started a vote to eject me at which point I decided to sell off the arms lab, armory, and prototype lab and build about 20 CC's off in the middle of nowhere (The actual arguing took long enough to accumulate 600 res) and then left the comm chair myself for the half assed commander who planned on taking my place and dropping tons of armor and HMG's all over the place and watching it go to waste. That was fun. It was real stress reliever doing that. I just wish I had more opportunities to put servers full of beggars in their place. Not only that, but the server admins were in at the time and they laughed at my team for being a bunch of whiney little kids when they asked them to ban me, so that was equally satisfying.

Actually what I wanted to hear was marines tales of dumb commanders, not the other way around. But it's all good, I guess.

Laser, yes my avatar is from the aenima album. Although Bill Hicks is the one that inspired Tool to write the song and make the picture.

Many times in pub games commanders annoy me because they simply don't have a strategy that can win. In pubs, it's really easy to secure two hives, and even if you are having a problem getting the second one, you should be able to waste enough time making the aliens fight for it to tech up to anti-fade levels.

In pubs, I always go the 'secure two hives' route because most of your marines are new players, or are just generally unskilled. I think these players always stand a better chance defending an area, then sending them on offencive missions. I've won countless games where my strategy was based on defending areas, and have won only a few where my primary goal was offencive missions. Pub players just can't gel as a team, causing really low success rates for offencive objectives.

But anyways, it's just a minor annoyance, I'll let these guys command, lose, ask them if they want to know what they did wrong, etc... The real knucklehead commanders are the arrogant players who don't think they need any help, and blame all of the loss on the soldiers, usually with bad language and insults. It's hard for me to toloerate stupidity in any form, but I've witnessed the lowest of the low thanks to some of the bad seeds in the Natural Selection community...

    ok my little story:

i was comm and secured 2 hives right away.. The 2nd hive was tough but i had some sharp shooters and we eventually got it.. we turtle so we can tech up (we got 2 hives well secured, whats weak lil skulks gonna do right?)

well the upgrade bug reared its ugly head and we had to go through 3 people before we found one that could upgrade.. He does upgrades and leaves chair so i can return to comm.. Some jackass goes comm and decides to drop himself a shotgun (which he never picked up) meanwhile.. skulks have done a great job grouping up and took out 2 turrets leaving our tf exposed in a hive.. Everyone is yellin for him to get out of comm or build turrets but he just stays there doing god knows what. He finally gets out (after we lost 2nd hive) and says something about hes gonna hack the server and shut it down then leaves the game

after that we try to tech up but not one single person can upgrade for heavy armor or upgraded armory.. fades come and destroy us not to long after that <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

I had an experience with a knuckleheaded commander: myself. We played Nothing and had secured cargo bay and enough res to upgrade weapons and armor to lvl 2 each, MT was already researched. I sent four guys to generator room and dropped a rt and a pg and had the marines continue to viaduct, turning left after the elevator shaft. while building the another pg closer to the hive, my four marines where eaten by ONE skulk. I sent another 3 guys down there, they were munched. ok, the second hive was comin up, I had HA and heavy weapons researched and dropped 4 has, 3 hmgs and a gl and welders and told those guys to go to generator and move on to viaduct. they died. pretty quick. I should have been more versatile and sent them on another route and I should have guessed that a bunch of marines that gets killed by one skulk won't be able to overcome the fade / lerk / gorge combo....

The most common problem is when noone wants to comm so a n00b gets in so they think the best build order is:
    IP,IP, TF, Senty x 5. Then leave.
I usually have to comm after that waiting years for the res to get obs and phase. Then to go secure a hive.

Comms can't make that many mistakes its all or nothing they mess up at the start and lose or succeed. The lack of res at the start means its so important to start right. If you mess up that then you've got a hard fight.

If the comm manages to get 2 hives theres not a great deal they can do wrong. And if they can get 2 hives there not a knucklehead.

As ShuflY said the abusive comm's are the real knuckle heads. On one game I played a clan player was comming (using the phase gate rush....lamer than a 2 legged donkey?). One person was dragging their feet a little (waited in base for about 10secs, getting bearings) and the comm was like (Over VC):
"Get to the waypoint now you tw*t!"
    3secs later
    "What are you a retard?"
    2secs
"MOVE TO THE WAYPOINT YOU F***ING RETARD, WTF DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING!"
    he then moved
Great people skills I'm sure you'll agree. Suffice to say if he spoke to me like this I'd consider a sabotage for the team. Some people think comm = GOD.

last night I was comm in a 8v8 game. We rushed one hive and put up a phase gate and turrets. The aliens attempted to take the other hive, but I built a phase and was about to siege it, when I had to get out of the CC for a second to dispose of a skulk biting my chair. Guess what happened???

Some Idiot stole the chair. I wouldnt have minded if he knew what he was doing. In less than five minutes(before he was ejected) he lost both hives, wasted all our resources on turrets at our spawn, and built an arms lab but did no upgrades. What a moron.
