Sound not working for Natural Selection 2

So I just got Natural Selection 2 on the steam sale and the in game sound doesn't work. I cant hear anything after the game starts loading no menu sounds, no gameplay sounds theirs nothing. I've tried deleting the game, verifying the files, and deleting all the files and verifying them to replace them nothing works. I really want to play this game it looks great but I cant play it when there is no sound. Please help

    Could you add a tech_support.zip. My first guess would be that ns2 is not detecting your audio output correctly.

    How do i do that. O ya i forgot to mention but after i exit the game it also screws up the audio for the whole computer so i have to exit steam for the audio to work.

    Ensure whatever device you are using for audio is selected in the windows sound options as "Default Device"
    Then ensure that same device shows up in the console (~ key) when you get to the main menu
    Then ensure that same device is selected in the Sound options menu in game
