Bunny Hopping

I really find it funny, when all the newbies on these forums whine on, saying how a marine can outrun a skulk 'backwards'

ever thought about the fact, a skulk can bunny hop (hold duck down) MUCH faster than a marine and catch it up within 1-2 seconds.

Now, overall, you may think this would lead to marines having an advantage, however when aliens can get from a to b extremely quickly using bunny hopping, it makes up for there lack of map movements (marines have phase gates).

Bunny hopping, is infact a skill, it does take time to learn and as long as they remove silent bunny hopping i'd be happy.

    pft

    bunny hopping is an exploit, regardless of how had it is to execute.

    just because something is difficult to do, it doesn't make it an exploit ..?

    guess I just dont get it

    Shame flayra also thinks it's a possible skill to learn, or so i've been told by numerous playtesters.

    He'll reduce it's effectiveness but not remove it entirely i believe

    I believe your just misunderstanding the comment on a stamina system, but its not worth arguing over when theres like ... 3 other posts or so about this same subject already - on the front page.

    Remove bunnyhopping and you will remove another aspect of marine play. It is not game breaking, the level it is at is perfect for the style of the game. The ability to manuvre with air accelation is one of the most attractive features of the HL engine. There is no need to take it out. I have never had a problem with hitting marines who bunnyhop about and infact when they do dodge me using a well excecuted glide jump, i say well played to them on a nice move.

    Bunnyhopping is not an exploit anymore as in patch 1.1.0.8 Valve set per mod definable limits on how much speed can be gained with Bhopping. Hence it has been endorsed to some degree by valve and hence is no longer an exploit.

    Sorry Silverfox but i really cant take you seriously when you say things like

    I'm all for just removing the damn jump key ..
    <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Will you not be happy untill marines can only stand still and shoot at aliens running at them in straight lines?

    Valve may not consider it one, but the makers of this game might...

    The makers don't consider it an exploit though.

    I would like to see a quote from the developers that say they don't consider it an exploit.

    In my opinion, I don't think Bunny Hopping is an exploit. I <b>do</b> think Bunny Hopping is an unwanted element in Natural Selection.

    I was showing off NS to a couple buddies of mine after bragging about it the night before. I was letting them spec a server and it was all "ohhhs" and "ahhhhs" up until they saw a Marine bunny hopper. It wasn't like the bunny hopper was any good, but the first thing they said to me was that it totally ruined the atmosphere.

    They told me they'd stick to DoD/CS until things get <i>ironed</i> out a bit more. (The crouch hitbox issue wasn't to their liking as well)

    so a couple of your realism freaks won't play ns. big loss there.
    remove bunny hopping and give fades m16s.

    Bunnyhopping needs skill? *lol* Use a script and it is very easy. Without script it is easy too at least for players who are used to playing games like TFC where bunnyhopping is used nearly all the time.

    So conc jumping rocket jumps and guass jumps r exploits but the dev teams decided to keep them cos they make good additions to the games/mods.

    I don't consider it an exploit, since it's still easy to beat a bunnyhopper. When I'm fighting a skulk, I jump around to avoid bites. If a skulk were trying to bite you IRL, you can't tell me you wouldn't do anything to get away from it's teeth.

    ... exaggerating a bit here, hu? <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    First: "atmosphere" isn't "realism" - "<b>Alien</b>" isn't that "realistic" but surely has "atmosphere", right?

    And why should fades have m16s? Acid is far better - ok, maybe add some uranium core to make it go right through armor and walls, and...

    ... ok ok, just joking.
    <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Question is: can you jump/fly faster than you run? I don't think so (at least without things like jetpacks etc.) (A flea does AFAIK, as it releases "stored" energy in a fraction of the time he used to store (like bow and arrow) - but that's once a while, not repeatingly and also doesn't apply to humans, who also would break their spine when landing after being propelled proportionally etc. etc. ... <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    The original Idea of HL of a boosterpack being triggerd for "long-distance" jumps (remember the tutorial? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> ) is one thing - but there should be a drain/overheat factor stopping people from <b>repeatingly</b> using it.
