Game launches into black screen.

Hello all,

I've browsed through the topics on here, and it seems that many other players are having a similar issue to me.

When I launch NS2, it immediately launches into a black screen and sits there with no sound, menus etc. forcing me to either sign out or restart as I am unable to terminate the program
(despite the fact that task manager shows it as running fine)
From what I can tell, there are no bug reports or error crash messages, with nothing in the logs.

Although I've read several other topics on this issue I have tried everything listed on here:

- Running DX setup in NS2 folder
- Verifying game files (Verifies with no problems)
- Reinstalling the game entirely (Doesn't seem to help, same issue as before)
- Ensuring graphical drivers etc. are up to date
- Running NS2 via exe. in folder rather than steam (though it does the same thing?)
- Deleting NS2 appdata before reinstalling or just deleting it and re-downloading
- NS2 is already running as admin
- I have no mods installed or subscribed to

I have ran this game before around a year ago with no issues on the same machine

I'm running Windows 8.1 and I'll include some system specs in case they are the issue:

Processor: AMD FX-8350 Eight Core (4.00GHz)
Motherboard: Asus M5A99X Evo
Memory: 16GB Kingston Hyper - X Fury Dual DDR3
Graphics Card: 2GB Nvidia Geforce 750 Ti

I am very eager to fix this, as I greatly enjoyed playing the game previously and would like to return to it.

Any replies/help is greatly appreciated.

    Could you first try to delete your steam /Steam/userdata/<steamid>/4920 and disable the steam cloud for ns2 and then start ns2 and see if that fixes your issue.

    If not please run the techsupport.exe and attach your tech_support.zip here,

    More details can be found here

    Could you try a gpu driver update. So far it seems like your gpu fails initializing (looking at your logs).

    I was unable to update my drivers via Nvidia experience or downloading the drivers directly, so I had to do a complete clean re-install of all Nvidia drivers and PhysX etc.

    However, even after this the issue is still the same (driver version is now 347.09)

    I've attached the tech support zip again in case it helps.

    Things to try:

    Press Alt+Enter when that black window comes up to go into windowed mode.

    Try changing your system_options.xml file to reflect : windowed, disabled bloom, and just to test change <device>D3D9</device> to <device>D3D11</device>

    EDIT: also you ARE running mods :

    <mods>
    <active_mods>8c96486</active_mods>
    </mods>

    Great!
    Well be sure to switch back to dx9 and fullscreen in the graphics options, for better performance and reliability
