Consequences of Failure/Death (Typical Suggestions)

I intended to post this in one of the other threads about ideas for the game but realized, that as a separate topic about this specifically, it could be it's own thread.
After having played the game for quite some time, I noticed that there doesn't really seem to be any consequence for dying (unless you're playing hardcore, but you get the idea). As a result, I used death as a means of quick transportation back to my base when I had explored too far.
However, after some thinking, I thought up a few ideas of ways to make death both scary and dangerous.
1. Add a type of parasitoid into the game.
Famously, you may recall the Facehugger from the Alien series. It is a creature that uses a host to multiply its own species, killing (or seriously injuring) the host in the process. It would be interesting to see a creature like this that can sneak up on and attack you. When you die and respawn in your lifepod, your previous dead body morphs into another one of the creatures. In this way, the more you die, the more of these creatures are created, and the threat becomes more severe.
2. Make drowning reduce your overall hunger and/or thirst.
To a certain limit, of course. But by making your hunger and thirst slightly shorter each time you drown, you are then required to find food and water more and more often.
3. Add effects when coming close to drowning.
In reality, when you begin to drown, your brain immediately ignores everything else except trying to stop you from drowning. Natural instinct kicks in and you lose control of your body so your brain can ensure survival. While fainting due to oxygen deprivation makes sense, so would having the camera forcibly pan upwards slightly, and the FOV distorting. Maybe even make it so that your character loses the ability to properly identify which animals are which, and what plants are what. While it may seem annoying to be swimming along and suddenly the camera starts looking to the surface, it would also be a sort of help to most players. A lot of people don't really pay attention to their oxygen, so it could be a subtle reminder to the need for air. Maybe fade in a heartbeat effect that gradually becomes faster until you either surface or drown.
Thoughts on these ideas?
(Because I never said it earlier, this is an absolutely fantastic game. I look forward to future updates. )
