What is going on with the Fragment Analyzer?

Ok so I rarely post questions here as our community is quick to notice most things. I also understand the complexity of coding and how complicated it is to change something without effecting everything down the string, so this is not a complaint. Just curious as to what is going on with the most underdeveloped piece of equipment in the game. I came on board about a week after the hull plate special deal earlier this year. I was absolutely astounded over the uniqueness and beauty of this game. I see all of this attention to detail in artwork and future tech ideas....then I saw the box. I thought ok, it's early and it works, thats what matters at this point. I know there has been a huge push to take care of much more important things, kudos to the Dev team by the way. We are a but farther in now and we still have this cube with a basic flattened cube lid. A place holder. I dont expect it to get a whole lot of attention soon, but I would like to know what plans are in store for this simple little box. I can only assume that it's appearance may be effected by machines yet to come.
I have had a few ideas such as a small table, or something similar to the fabricator on the wall. Upon dropping the fragments in, a single frag appears on the scanning bed, two orbital scanning lasers spend time scanning it. One laser horizontal, one vertical. Something like that anyway.
Was thinking a laser like this, but small. Same shape, similar color. Blue glowy stuff always feels more futuristic.
