Possible routes for Multiplayer

I've come up with a couple of ideas for Multiplayer to be incorporated into Subnautica. First off, let me be clear that I do NOT want multiplayer for what we have now. That will kill the isolated on an alien world angle. Second, I'm not expecting Multiplayer until at least 10 major updates from now since it will take some time to create and implement. Now that those are out of the way, let's dive in.

1. Separate game mode- Have two separate game modes on the main menu, Solo or Multiplayer. Both will play the exact same way except Multiplayer will have a slightly different intro, more escape pods will appear for a greater amount of players, and you can't see the beacons of the other players or chat with them unless you team up with them.

2. Mission Mode- Players compete in a one against all version of the game where you race to achieve certain goals like; Build a Radiation Suit, and you gain points based on whether you did it first, Second, Third, etc. Once everybody has completed the mission or missions you get a score which can be added to an overall Subnautica level/rank or something along that line.

I know these aren't much in the ideas department, but it's enough to get the ball rolling. What would you all like to see for a multiplayer experience in Subnautica?

I would have to disagree. I think multiplayer with how the game is right now would be amazing. Not to say your first idea isn't interesting. I would be cool to have to find other players naturally than starting off together. As for your second idea, I really can't see Subnautica as a competitive game whatsoever. In a game whose sole focus is exploration and survival I can't really see where competitive game modes would fit in.

I think if multiplayer is to be added, a seamless co-op is the way to go. I think the devs that want the game to stay solo only have a good point that slapping on a co-op mode could detract from the core experience.

(IMHO) If it is to be added, it should fit in the with core experience and not be a separate mode.

a co-op would be pretty amazing

when the game is almost done they should implement a 2-4 player mod (like in minecraft where u make your map open for a few other people)

Yeah, I absolutely agree. Multiplayer, if it's ever developed should just be the normal game mode but with friends. And preferably with a max player count not much above four.

No open servers, and no different modes. That'd be my preference anyway.

large scale multiplayer wouldn't work in the long run due to the map size constraints. You'd need a constant randomly generated world system like minecraft, 7 days to die or some other survival game. Resources is a huge major issue when it comes to multiplayer. Far as I know from playing resources, the more important ones are finite and don't regenerate. I could be wrong and later down the road the developers might change all this but the simple fact is the map is not randomly generated, it's in a set state and is built by hand by the developers in charge of that area. Building a system within the game to make randomly generated maps I would guess would be a huge project and take months to do.
