This game means something to me, more so than any game for years.

Greetings devs, unknown worlds fans, natural selection 2 lovers, what-have-you. I come from years and years of disappointing crap video games that have constantly upset me and worn me out over time. Triple A titles have become shameless money grabs with a general lack of content and interesting concepts. Nothing is new to the gaming scene except the same old crap shooter games and other rehashed garbage for every other genre. It has been years since a truly excellent game has been made (though there are a few standouts such as the Mass Effect franchise, Oblivion, and others). Regardless, very few things have been interesting to me, a person who has grown up playing Diablo 2, Half-Life, and many other classic titles that we all know and love. They all have reached that sweetspot that people have found extremely addicting and appealing. Nowadays, it seems, you can mostly find quality games on the Indie scene, and even those are often times "meh."

Naturally, as you can see, I have extremely critical tastes with video games and have come into every game with a very closed mind and not very open to what I see because I have seen massive disappointment across the board. Now that Steam offers early access, I have seen even MORE disappointment from these new indie developers since the devs can create a game, bake it up a little and promise features and let people buy a completely unfinished game and then that's it. The devs will have pocketed the cash and leave behind all sorts of amazing ideas with video games. And, even those that don't lack a truly immersive feeling because a lot of the games that are early access, despite having good graphics don't have a particularly realistic feel whether it be the movement, combat, or anything else. Everything just feels clunky. Long story short, Early Access games are a disgrace.

This brings me to this game. Oh boy. I saw this guy upon its release on steam as early access but I thought, "eh what the Hell it's probably another junk early access title that will never get fleshed out in the least." Flash forward a few months to present day. Just a week ago I realized this game was being produced by Unknown Worlds, the development team that produced Natural Selection as a mod for Half-Life, which I grew up on alongside Sven Coop for Half-Life as well. They were just my two favorite games and I have so many fond memories of them as a child (other than being destroyed by good Kharaa players when I was a frontiersman.. god that was frustrating hehe). Anyhow, these guys always get the job done, though I would have liked to see more updates on NS2 after it was released (still a great game). I can trust these devs because they keep their games running, but I decided to view an immense amount of update logs and see how often the devs of this game update it, and it seems updates have been coming around often and I am glad to see the game is getting fleshed out and developed.

This game, Subnautica, was the first game I've ever made a post about (this one) and it feels good to do it. I have not felt this kind of pleasure playing a video game in 5 years, and this game isn't even close to being finished. I have played many hours of this game, and have completed everything the game currently has to offer, and it was extremely thrilling to play through it all. The game has the right balance of relaxation and anticipation, and it is very rewarding to progress as a character from the shallow waters to the depths. Essentially, it is something that is truly NEW. The game is more than just a breath of fresh air to gaming, and there is an intangible reason as to why. It simply is. The designing of the game, very careful as it is, is the reason why. This game can truly bring new light to gaming, and I am begging the developers to not ever cut off the extraordinary possibilities of exploration and creativity that this game can offer. I think this game can really go somewhere, more so than the endless amount of garbage games out there that try to do the same thing in the survival sense. Not one of them has done this exceptionally well (and yes I have played a lot of them.. Only one I can say was a good survival game so far was The Long Dark but that is a different story).

This game has showed me that there is hope. This is the only game i have purchased in many years, and I will be the first to admit that i have pirated a lot of games over the years and this one I just had to buy. I am dying to see new things out of this game, more content, more exploration because this game is more than just a tiny project and I know Unknown Worlds will not let me down. I am so happy to have had the opportunity to play this game, and I hope that Unknown Worlds continues to develop the game to continue to give me a reason to play it. Thank you for the freshness of this. It is not just something to play, but to experience, and that is such as big thing nowadays.

Thank you, supporters and or devs for reading this.

Hey, thanks for the kind words, Malachi. Glad to hear you are enjoying Subnautica so far.

Oh, and by the way, not sure if you saw but NS2 is still being updated to this day, due to the impressive efforts of the Community Development Team. They just released a great new map in their latest update http://unknownworlds.com/ns2/derelict/

that's cool. Good on ya m8

I got this game because my girlfriend wanted me to get over my crippling fear of the ocean, since we're going scuba diving later this fall.

I have to say it's really helping.
    Aside from some... unfortunate events

I agree. There's something with this game that's different. It's been a long time since I've been excited to get off work and get gaming, but here I am not working and reading the forums waiting for 5...
