A new take on farming

Alright, so I've seen a lot of different ideas here on the forums. Two of the ones with the most support are farming, and the ability to explore more of the Aurora. So, I had an idea. Normally, we wouldn't eat many of the plants on an alien planet, as we'd be unsure whether they were toxic. So, logically the Aurora would have food storage, right? Maybe you can go into the aurora, and in a certain room, you find the means to farm. Plows, cultivators, fertilizers, and all of the Earth plant seeds. Potatoes, wheat, carrots, tomatoes... Just a thought I had. I thought, since the Aurora is on a terraforming mission anyway, they'd logically have the means to make sure people could live on the alien planet.

Just fyi, this was recently discussed here: http://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/comment/2253846/#Comment_2253846. But as I didn't mention this point there, I'll add that before sending a colony ship they surely would have studied the planet from afar and sent probes. Consider that they came equipped with blueprints for everything needed to thrive in an underwater environment after all. Therefore, they would have already determined if they could eat the native flora and fauna (via robot probes), or perhaps in their experience colonizing who knows how many worlds they have never found Earthlike world yet where they couldn't eat the native organisms, even if a little high tech processing was necessary first.

this is a easy thing to do ...just add a new room that will be called the hydroponics garden/room....2 birds one stone...another diferent room to add to our bases and a reliable source of food....and since we are just trowing ideas around they could do another room whit aquariums all around that could be used to keep/breed fish...

but to me this should be a late game iten at first should stay how it is

You make a good point about the potential preparation of the Aurora. The fragments would suggest that there were plans for underwater exploration and habitation. The fragments are pieces of the technology that scattered from the crash. We're lucky that the ones we find just happen to be for underwater operations. Either by design or coincidence, there haven't been any fragments of land or air vehicles found.

Unless we find something that deals with the plans for farming the local flora/fauna for food, or a technology-based food creation device, we're just getting by with minimal survival. I personally hope they implement a farming module so I don't need to have 10+ aquariums stocked with fish in my base all the time.

Don't worry CMonster0125, unless they change their plans, they have said that the update after the next one (the H2.O/ water update) will be "farming", though we don't know what that actually entails. They have also previously discussed/hinted at our being able to grow our own food so the update will probably let us build a hydroponic farm in our base, but as I don't recall the exact source, part of that could be just be rumor.
