I played NS2 for a few days this week and I was offended several times for absolutely nothing!
And yet, actions of Kick and Eject meaningless, with only intuited to screw up other people's fun.
One day, one day, I managed to have fun in this game.
This is not a good game for people seeking fun and this is no longer an entertaining game.
What is it then???
I say!!!
A place for fools feed the ego.
End transmission.

When people say this, I think they play on the wrong servers. Play on TGNS. They have active admins and a very pleasant community. The admins do not put up with such assholery.
MCG servers often pretty good too. I know the admins there are pretty good, and are online pretty frequently. I have had good experiences there.
I can not speak for EU servers, but I hear TAW is pretty good.
I also find it so sad when people say they left because the community is so bad. It really is 1/10 people in my experience. I am a veteran. I try to respond to noob questions, or just questions. I try to help people out. I can not stand it when people get so upset when a player can not get the kill, or make a mistake. It is just a game, and that kind of behavior is uncalled for in any circumstance. I actively argue with them, asking why they must be like that? I am a veteran so they can't call me noob. They never have a response.
Overall though, my experience is that ns2 veterans are more mature than other games. Look at LOL. Even CS is worse than ns2.

Is it fun if the commander has zero clue what he is doing? No
Is it fun when you are the commander and everyone is yelling at you but the marines cant kill aliens in a rain of medpacks? No

Teambased games are NEVER pure fun.
I saw dumb snipers in Battlefield Rush-mode never doing anything else than standing around with zero interest to win the round.
It might be fun for them to get 4 random kills, for me they are the cancer of team-based games.

Your definition of fun might be differ from other players.
For me its not fun when half of the alien team is going gorge and gardening there useless gorgeforts on the ass of world, for them it might be super funny to train there small babbler-army while they dont care about whats going on.

If you want pure fun, play offline solo games.

the problem I see is that the fun part in ns2 is only reached once you play competitive 6v6 in a team you play together with regulary and against opponents on similar skill to yours. For people who just started to play this game this experience feels very very far away

I have fun on pubs, and the ones I play are 18-24 man servers.

Many EU servers are not that bad, including TAWs.
(and if no admin is on taw atm, just complain to us/me later.. I keep logs)

But in my experience people on pubs usually kick due to lack of communication or slow slow slow comms.
Not always though, sometimes they kick for any ridiculous reason, sadly.

I spoke to the Trello's Development Boss - WasabiOne - about these serious problems with the Vote Buttons but they did nothing... blergh.

    You are not right.

The problem is in the MATURITY of the players.
Mephilles commented it here and he is right.

There is the other side of the coin, you didn't mentioned.

Yes it is enjoyable to play with teammates who know their way around and have a comparable skill to your (if not better). It makes any defeat less painful in the way you and your teammates did all that was possible.

    But...
    • At every game you know what will be the opponent move before it happens as it's the most efficient one; given any situation. Especially on small 4 TPs maps. You become an Oracle player kind. If you never met that kind of people; I have a bad news about your friends. The game becomes boring at best. In fact I think we should try a 6TPs map just for the fun of testing how much randomness it provides.
    • You will end up in a context in which the strategic element of NS fades away to leave the brute force element dominating. Aiming / dodging contest. The so called strategic stuff that remains in the competitive scene is more a bunch of tactic tricks (ex: Ninja PG, Tunnel) than real strategic development. I quite often see team A losing by making mistakes more than team B doing the right thing. UWE chose to favor fireworks for the sake of the showcase. This can explain that.
    • You're "down with the kings"... or not. The same thing happened on NS1. At some point you have 2 ~ 3 teams on top of any other. It's a demoralizing element for other potential great teams. It kills the competition before it's born. Not to mention player retention.
    • And there is the dark side... People with pinkie size issues, exploits and the list goes on.
That's why I never did a PCW or competitive on NS2. NS1 did act as a vaccine for me. You don't need to go competitive to be a decent NS player. You just need a brain and train yourself differently than in other FPS games (like reading, watching video tutorial, talking to a mentor, etc).

I'm a very competitive person in general and if I want to measure on how much I improved I need the same team and preferably the same opponents aswell.

Pubs can be fun but for me the ratio of fun rounds is way less then in comp. I almost never use my microphone in pubs because:
A ) I don't like using push to talk and
B ) I don't know who to trust. If there is a decent guy on the server I know from competitive play then I play with him as a team without communication though. This is quite an interesting training.

There was a 6tp map in beta days called turtle. It probably still exists but for some reason I think it was changed into a 5tp map. It never did play very well but that could be from other factors.

    I believe in you.

The biggest problem is that the current players do not understand NOTHING about advanced strategy, they play to aim and kill and worse, are spoiled and rude.

The Skill Level is changing the NS2 main strategy.
This Skill is leading many players to focus at aim and kill, never respecting advanced strategys.

You said MCG server would be good to avoid some spoilers!?
I confirm that this dawn in a MCG server I was insulted in an even more unnecessary way and felt extremely slighted.
This is not a game or a fun, but a way to boast of something.
