Server Information unreliable (ping 999, 0/X players)/Unable to join most servers

As stated in the title, most server state a ping of 999, I rarely can see any players, sometimes 1 player shows (even if there is more than 1). Upon trying to join servers I usually get "Couldn't establish a connection with the server"

    I dont see any specific error from the server or anything.
    I currently suspect some kind of firewall or antivirus (which may integrate a firewall).

    What antivirus do you use? Is there any firewall setup by any chance?

    Thanks for the response!

    I use Kaspersky, and I have set it up to allow NS2. I'm starting to wonder if there may be some ISP problems too(?). I have recently been able to connect to some servers close (physically) to where I'm at, if I can get them to populate on the server list, and a few have finally shown all fields correctly in the server list.
    I'm on Verizon FIOS in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
    I will go over all my firewalls again and do some DMZ testing if it comes to that.

    DMZ didn't help, pausing kaspersky's stuff didn't help...
    No luck... but now I have added bonuses of getting dumped from servers I finally do connect to.
    I also tried re-installing.
    Got some new looking error when I got kicked at least... "Detected connection to old peer"-in console. GUI message just said cannot connect to server.

    You are just timing out..

    Can you please try running a trace route to one of those servers' IPs?
    Run command prompt with admin privalages and type tracert 123.12.32.21 (replace that with an actual IP obviously)
    And post the results here

    Using steam, I cannot join the server, if I go into NS2 and connect through the console, it works. I cannot see either server in the server list (all filters are non strict or exclusive to anything at the moment). So still, my major problem is not being able to see servers while browsing, and connecting without knowing the IP address. Also, if I connect in this fashion and the server is full... I don't know how to join a queue.

    This is more than likely related to http://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/comment/2257831/#Comment_2257831

    Since I have discovered that trace routing to a server can still result in a timeout like you see above if it is blocking ICMP

    So as you can see from the link we have recognized the cause and are working on a fix - sit tight!
