Or riding of the back of a Crabsnake.

Or sending hordes of bleeders to my enemies!

No, I don't think I would like pets. This game is a very serious survival in an alien world. Taming wouldn't fit in, just look at rust or stranded deep. You want to tame stuff, go play Ark.

Actually , it would make sense to tame the smarter species. You could add juveniles that display a curious rather than hostile behavior , allowing you to feed them. Then you could have a young stalker following you around , revealing loose bits of loot by loudly toying with them like the adults do with metal scrap.

Maybe not pets in general, but perhaps a single dolphin-like creature that is friendly to you (or that you can make friendly to you). If you run out of oxygen and he's in the vicinity, he'd take you to the surface.
