Hi all.. My friends and I play subnautica a lot.. And we are good.. We were always talking about i wish multiplayer was added.. And it would be fun so.. What do You think?
“Adding multiplayer support to Subnautica is something we would love to do. In fact, the game was originally conceived of as a co-op experience. However, as we started to develop the game, we skipped multiplayer to be able to release the game faster.
Now we find ourselves in a difficult situation: we all really want co-op player, but adding it would take us many months of work. We almost have to start over from the beginning, as it affects everything. If our small team decided to add multiplayer right now, we probably wouldn’t be able to improve any other aspect of the game for a very long time.
So we’re not sure what we’re going to do, but we’re not working on multiplayer right now. The most important thing is to make sure the exploration, crafting and creature experience is working well. Maybe before v1.0 we’ll figure out a way to hire another team to help us with networking, or maybe we’ll release a new version of the game later that supports co-op (like Klei did with “Don’t Starve Together”).”
So let's just let the devs finish the single player game first so that we can get a complete and polished product, and then we can worry about bells and whistles like co-op or multiplayer.
I like it as it is - not EVERY game HAS to have a multiplayer - personally it's nice to play this on my own and do my own thing. Introduce multiplayer and you'll also get the typical multiplayer problems that come with it.

As long as it's not mandatory, you know... Nothing changes for singleplayer peeps.
Dunno how the multiplayer would actually work like. Maybe 32 persons limit, but still, it would be objective pointless, since everyone would have fallen to the planet, so basically the whole crew doesn't hold a grudge between each others or something to turn this into an survival game. In the other hand... They could have natives vs crew or something like that. Each part would have access to different technologies... To be honest, I really dunno how this could actually be successful in Multiplayer, except if not for chilling exploring the world with the respective counterpart or something like that.
Let's just sit and wait to see where this game will be lead to.
After they have finished the SP, we can start suggesting on MP settings.
Any multiplayer would probably be invite-only. Other than that, I don't see any need for player limits, other than just what the game can handle- if someone wants to invite 50 people, then that is their game. I personally don't think that many would add to the game, but a 2-3 player co-op, or just 2-3 people doing whatever, or PvP with friends, would be quite fun.

What are these "typical multiplayer problems"? Because I've played exploration games before that had multiplayer, and I can't actually recall ever having any problems with it. Maybe your conception of what "multiplayer" would mean for a game like Subnautica is different from mine? but then I'm wondering where you're drawing that from, what exploration games have problematic multiplayer/
4 player online multiplayer is the best I can see happening. The Devs can add it in after they have v1.0 out. After that they'll have all of the tech and map made, and just have to tweak the story and some gameplay elements slightly for it.

I think that is the issue of most recent bandwagon survival games where everyone kills everyone because they can. There is no teamplay and the people who are lucky early on will keep getting more and more awesome weapons. Leaving new players as cannon fodder.
All of which could be fixed by having PvP servers and PvE servers... Or penalties for killing low levels... So yeah, those games are basically not setup correctly and are certainly not to be used as a point against a survival multiplayer as there are ways to fix those issues
Although TBH, I don't see PvP working in this game. Like I said Coop is where it should be at IMHO, if this is going to be an option at all
AAAAAND this topic has been discussed to death and back over and over again anyways soooo. @Requiemfang has a valid dead horse there!
This game is absolutely shouting out for even just a 2-player cop-op game mode. I think I'd uninstall all my other games (other than GTA) if Subnautica had a 2 player mode
Hope you folks who want multi or co'op realize it won't be happening for a while, there's a reason for it and no matter how much whining and begging you do the dev's have already weighed in on it. Won't be happening anytime soon so it's better to not discuss it you are only going to end up sad faced. Hence the reason why I posted the beating a dead horse with a stick gif. It's a moot point to talk about it.
Also the thing about multiplayer is STICKED I mean seriously I wish people who stop being lazy and actually READ you have eyes USE THEM.
