Solar Panel life span?

Hi guys

Bought the game a while ago and only played small amounts at a time, but this is a question regarding one thing I have noticed lately

When i build any base, I usually create a vertical tube to surface of water, with a corridor and a platform to the side (on surface of water) and place about 15 solar panels on it to get maximum charge capacity being 100% in view of the sun.

Recently I notice my maxium base power fluctuating in lots of 25 or 50+

I went to the surface to check my solar panels, and noticed the blue power line blinking in and out ... sporadically across different panels.

Is there any reason for this to be happening?
Do solar panels have a life span?
Should I be breaking them down and remaking them to refresh their lifespan?

Its kind of frustrating as I want to have a reasonably self sufficient base (without having to resort to nuclear or thermal energy on a small base, but one that I can have a Moonpool, and Water Purifier on at the same time - hence the number of solar panels)

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

You can see the vertical tube raising to surface with platform - which has solar panels on it

I don't think they have a lifespan, at least not as of the time of writing these posts. I believe the maximum power fluctuations may be a bug, but I don't know what exactly is causing it. It happens with other power sources as well; I've observed it happen with thermal power generators as well.

I have a test base built in Experimental mode that is purely solar-powered with a massive array of panels placed right under the surface in the Safe Shallows biome. It has a maxium of 2100 Power—and it shows fluctuations of about 100-200 points down from that maximum rating before swinging back up. However it's such an extreme amount that it has enough redundancy to cover two water purifiers and two spotlights simultaneously, even with Seamoth recharges and some crafting overnight.

What you can try to do is gather more resources and really expand your solar panel farm so you have enough redundancy to cover all your needs.

Nah, i don't think they have a lifespan either. I had one dissappear after an update once, i just put that down as a bug and it's not happened since

I have found that building the solar panels on the ground, rather than on parts of the base works best.

I've noticed this and thought it was just me lol, my main base power will fluctuate every once in awhile from 500 to 700.

This seems to be a bug, altho no official word have been said on this matter from the devs.
you can look at several posts on this matter on this forum and also in the bug section.

Ive personally made a few allusions to this matter in a few posts, This post being one of them

    Heres another thread about it

Ive also made a little video about a solar panel bug example ive had in a previous game:
