  There is a bit of chop on the surface but not sloshing sorts of waves (structured vertical displacement - think surfing!) that you would need for wave power. Tsunami are really boring out at sea - just when they hit the coast that they get interesting aside - on a diving trip to Moorea we swam through channels in the reef with large waves breaking over the top. Huge fun, lots of currents, bit of holding on for dear life!
