It's an alien planet it should have alien weather, along side normal earth weather

According to an abandoned PDA, the abandoned base on the floater island is half buried because of an intense storm.

    That's awesome!!!

Its a water planet and there must be a water cycle so it should rain for multiple days in a row on normal.

I included a bit on the planet's weather systems in the story 'Aurora Falls'. Cyclone season occurs as the planet reaches perihelion, and it lasts for approximately three years. Bring a raincoat.

Speak of the devil, I was actually just about to mention that exact thing you had wrote in aurora falls!

I could only imagine a tidal wave forming and just gaining power as it keeps circling the planet do to lack of ground to stop it. ( no big land masses that we know of )

Or massive storms that just cause the ocean to constantly heave you around! And stress your sea bases to the max!

i think it would be cool to have these storms, i also think that with the storms it would be cool to have things like hurricanes or waterspouts. i also think that they should be able to damage bases and vehicles and at times make breathing on the surface a little more difficult with intense rain factors.

I know I must slowly become "The guy that dislikes any kind of weather related post" but rest assured I don't wanna troll or anything like that. I just offer my opionion on these topics.

Weather in general is a great idea. I'd love to see huge maybe even strange colored thunderstorms and lightning (because Alien planet why the hell not). Together with rain, heavy sea, hurricanes, big/huge waves and so on...and yes it should have an impact (move/threw you around in the lifepod, make it harder to get air...) when you come close to the surface or you try to catch air.

But...(now comes the part that no one seems to like) a storm, even a heavy one would not have a huge impact on any base that is not very close to the surface. By close I mean something like 10-15m deep.
If you got a base that is build like 30m deep or something alike you could enjoy your Peeper-steak together with some potatoes and some Marblemelon whilst sipping a big filtered water without even noticing the heavy weather that rages on the surface. Maybe you would see some sand and or plants that got whirled up from the seabed in the shallows that settle down again passing your windows maybe slightly obscuring your vision if your base is build close to the shallows. But other then that you would not notice much.

If you want effects on your base we would have to talk about a current system which could impact your structural integrity needing strong bases in areas which suffer under strong currents from time to time. You could maybe base a regular occuring current on the moon(s) passing by like on our planet with high and low tide. Or a little bit like in the movie "Interstellar" where huge waves circle the whole planet not as big as in the movie but maybe something that is caused by the extreme near "big" moon or so...we have enough possible lore friendly causes for a nice current system. Maybe in a update after 1.0? I dunno..would be cool though.

Hrmmm not to argue with you. But wouldn't a massive wave also effect seabases at a lower depth? I mean weight is weight.. So with say 100m of water allready on top of you, then add say even a 20 m wave. Wouldn't that be technically 120 m worth of water (and pressure) ?

Meaning if you had a low enough structural rating.. That extra weight and pressure would in fact cause you issues even that far down?

Please correct me if I wrong

To have massive storms that create massive currents and waves would be awesome! Since it is an alien planet there would be alien weather patterns. Example, a possible event where spouts of water start to form, creating pillars of water on top of the water. Or another idea is a massive whirl pool that would create massive currents that either push or repel things. Creepvine would be sucked in and maybe plants would be brought in as well( acid mushroom an table coral)

i dont have any ideas but all i want is to fear the surface as much as the sea

It'd be wonderful if there were storms that would relocate anything too close to the surface and damage bases that were too close to the surface...

The pressure increases exponentially. Also the difference in depth between wave peaks and wave troughs should average out eventually.

So weather would generally effect the surface. However, in deeper waters you could get debris raining down, reduced visibility or relocated animals as a result of the storms on the surface. So, a reaper leviathan appearing near your base for a few hours? Or perhaps a bunch of debris burying your solar panels or smashing your windows?

I like all of these thoughts. Just as long as it isn't a constant thing that happens several times a day. Some games are way to proud of their weather and allow it to happen so much it just becomes annoying fast.

@Nautical_Nick Love the alien weather thoughts. Just normal looking earth weather events would never do.

@ThePassionateGamer The Current idea is awesome. Having varied building requirements for different current strengths would put some strategy in base building.

Sorry for the kinda late reply. I am by no means an ocean expert or something alike. So yes you may be right that a wave would partially add pressure. But as long as we don't talk about waves that are really HUGE and your base is not on the verge of breaking down anyways a few meters more "depth/pressure" won't make a huge impact.

Sure if we had waves that are like 100m+ it could possibly strain your base integrity that much that you would suffer leakage and floodings. But maybe @Avimimus is right and waves hight differences even out not creating pressure differences at all. I can't tell the truth there because I just don't know. ;)
