Giant "L-corridor" in Deep Grand Reef?

So I explored the Deep Grand Reef and found (what I thought it would be) a cave entrance.
But soon I realized it wasn't. Instead, I found something different...
Because I'm as curious as a Garryfish, I wanted to go in there, so I checked with the sonar if there is something interesting. And I saw something I didn't expect to see.
Driven by said curiosity I entered this "area".
I headed forward and reached a 90 degrees turn AND a ceiling.
I didn't take any more screenshots, because it basically looks like a "L" if you would look at it from above. It ends with a flat wall, it has a ceiling and a floor (also flat) and the only entrance to this area is this hole from the second screenshot. Interesting to note is that at the end of the corridor on the top left corner you can look through a gap and see other areas very similar in construction.
Is this an area for a future biome or is it just there to be there? What do you guys think?
