What would it do though, move you towards a big creature that eats you or something? And you can remove it by... Well how exactly, we need a way to break free
you should be able to get it off with any tool. when the mindworm is on you you click while holding a tool you take the tool and smash it behind you to get the mindworm but each hit takes 5% of your health.
no, this will never work, its bad enough leviathans lurk near the ship, but to have something like a neural parasite would make people never go to the ship
I like the concept and has been used successfully elsewhere but to do this in subnautica would compromise the dive suit and pop. More on the right track if the Mesmer had a more notable effect on your controls or perception.
I like the idea of a mind control worm. My idea is more like it controls the player to swim down into deeper water as fast as possible or randomly reorders your directional controls until it detaches.
Mabey the creature can have a hard skin that is invunirable to knifes, so players who mabey lost their knife while exploreing can take it down without a knife. Players should use other tools and streach their imagination, sense the worm could probably make you go deeper and try to sufficate you, you could use the wealder to burn him or mabey burn his "shell" to open a weak point for a quick escape or to stab the creature to make him latch off of you. The creature could be in the deep grand reef or the soon to be added Twisty Bridges biome. The creature could look like a long but small surpent like creature that resembles a shocker (if we are going with the shell thing I said). Really cool post and a really cool idea at best, altough people I meet who play the game hate biters and bleeders, another parasite type creature would be a nice and new challendgeing experiance for all of us to enjoy from this game.
P.S. Sorry for any grammer issues or any problems that you see in this post.

It sounds a little overpowered. You'd have to have a way to get it off of you.
it gives fair warning before attacking. but the heated blade can remove it using the system Fansauce32 laid out. how's that?
More creatures specifically designed to mess us up? Why?
Not even Earth's oceans are this hostile, and that's saying something.
