Agree, devs know best and though I'd like to see it retained am happy to be rid of it if it means improved performance. I know the plan is to shut down the experimental server on steam after 1.0 but that seems the easiest way to me to keep it is just to keep it available in experimental in steam as some pc seem to be able to handle it ok.
"I think we should keep such and such feature because its not that hard, even though I have no programming experience and have no idea whether that's true or not." lol Just because something sounds easy doesn't mean it is. Its as Fathom said, an inefficient use of limited resources for something that doesn't have much of a purpose and causes extremely noticeable performance issues.
I mean, it is easy. You have one version of the game that keeps being updated and you have the voxel version of the game that doesn't and exists as an optional download to see what the game was like before. Hell, you could do it yourself by just copying a current version of the game to a different hard drive or usb and launching it from there at a later date.

Sounds like a reasonable idea, better than trying to maintain two versions or keeping it in as a 'game option'... The only thing I could possibly see right now is that some people might not read the fine bolded-and-underlined-and-highlighted print that reads "Legacy Content: No longer under development, play at your own risk" and then begin complaining about stuff not working or why it's not being updated.
Copying the files to another USB and playing it later is probably a good idea if you're really wanting to keep playing with Terraforming, as long as you don't accidentally update it things should work fine?

Best use I've found for the terraformer....smoothing out and widening the paths to the abandoned bases on top of Floater Island.
But ya, I agree with you.
