Do you play in Survivor or Explorer mode... and why?

I'm new to the game and started in basic Survival mode. Eating and doing drinking is getting to be kind of a pain because it's so hard for me to catch the food to eat, or try to store it. Thinking for next playthrough I won't use Survival, but then I'm afraid it will feel so easy and cheaty then. What do you all think?

I like the challenge of having to catch my own food and looking for materials to make drinking water. Oh... and one tip on catching Peepers. Think of it as an arcade space fighter sim. Just lead your target and you will catch him. Or make a gravball (or whatever it's called) and use it for catching fish.

I think every survival game is overwhelming at first with all you need to take care of, but you get used to it. You could use a Freedom run to learn where everything is and what you all can acquire to stabilize your food supply. Then, when you know, you can go back to Survival if you feel Freedom is too easy.

I play only in Survival. I don't like roguelike games, so hard mode isn't for me. But Freedom takes away the purpose of several gameplay aspects; it's not so much too easy as an incomplete experience. Survival is just right.

I usually play on Survival if I'm looking for the "full experience" (Things like the Water Filteration machine have limited use in Freedom), but I'll play on Freedom if I'm just looking for a laid back game. If I'm reaaally wanting to have a more calm experience, I'll go Freedom/Survival with "Invisible" on. I can still die to temperature, drowning, starvation... I need to still upghrade my subs and gather resources... But I don't have to fear the Leviathans.

So, it depends on my mood and what experience I'm after :)

So far, I have always played in Freedom mode, because I'm more interested in the exploration/building aspects than in the survival mechanics. In addition, I try never to kill any creature (problem is reciprocality ); one of my favourite goals in the game is reaching the point where I can watch even the most dangerous predators from the safety of my vehicle.

I mostly play on Survival mode; the thrill of danger in the early game trying to survive, gathering resources to build a base, exploring to unlock new tech and progress the story! There's so much Survival mode has to offer that Creative and Freedom modes don't really appeal to me... What's left to do after you've built your 8-story underwater glass fortress with 4 Moonpools and 6 Fish Habitats but to start it over again in a new area? :|

All that aside however, it is fun to swim underwater without the Seamoth, just exploring the areas snorkeling without having to worry about oxygen every 30~60 seconds. Hopefully later on development will allow late-game unlocks that can increase the amount of time spent underwater (via the DNA Sequencer or such).

I don't plan on playing another survival until the full game is released. I like exploring everything they add to the game without worrying about food or hydration (at the moment, anyway).

Survival for me. The food/water issue is only a pain in the very early game, and after that its just a reminder that I'm a ship wrecked castaway, not planetary colonist. :)

    Survival for me too.
As long as you don't cook your food for later and just put live fish in aquariums (or lockers) you won't be in trouble quickly.

Tough for me the game looses part of it's charm when I have a few water filtration units and alien containment units breedings peepers.

    Stable: Survival
Experimental: Creative/Freedom. (I mostly just test random stuff in experimental)

I just started and went Survival since that's what I click on in Minecraft. Although in this game, it's heeeella challenging in the beginning, but not so bad once you have fins fast enough to catch fish.

Food itself is not so much an issue. Water is a muuuuch bigger issue. I don't have the stillsuit blueprint yet (or remotely found any fragments ... find a variety of fragments is such a pain!), but I came across a bunch of salt recently, so I have a few bottles stocked up.

But yeah ... the beginner game is very very tough.

I started all 3 except hard. So freedom, survival and creator. Then it depends on my mood as to which I play. Create is great for playing around with stuff. Freedom when I want a relaxed game and Survival when I'm alert and want the full experience. Quite confusing so far though as I only started yesterday LOL.

It becomes easier to get food and drinks the longer you play. I use Survivor mode currently, creative when I wanna mess around with a new base idea.
