Awful performance on old save but new game is fine

Hello everyone, hope you are all doing well.

I recently upgraded my computer and backed up my old save before reinstalling windows. I re downloaded steam and subnautica and copied my old save. The frame rate has really dropped to around 5fps. I tried a new game and all works fine - around 60 fps with decent textures.

Anyone got any ideas? Perhaps a config file?
Thanks

I still have all my old saves, more or less one game save per update. They have all been updated each time. In some the cyclops disappeared, in others whole seabases vanished, in further more wrecks and fragments did not exist. The one thing they all share in common is god-awful performance.

Old saves are of little more use than reminiscence pieces. At least until the optimisation part of development kicks in, you pretty much need to create a new game each update.

I appreciate that you may be using the same save on two installations within a single update period, but honestly I think that's just another trigger to the same problems. It reminds me of old games that used a "world seed", even when save data was copied the data might not match up due to differences in the world. No idea if it is technically like that, it just feels the same. One save per generated world.

Thanks man that sort of makes sense, I know it's early access so it's to be expected. Cheers for your help
