  With my limited understanding of the situation, I'm under the impression that that wouldn't be significantly easier than a global server, since the main coding issue is getting the engine to recognise more than one human controlled character.
  
  At any rate the devs have made it crystal clear that they aren't going to be coding multiplayer (definitely not this year). Whether you agree with them or not, it seems like wishful thinking to try and convince them to do it.
