An arc lighter can be constructed using circuitry and similar stuff, and be used to light magnesium or crashpowder for lighting that is cheaper than flares or electric lights, but doesn't last nearly as long. If its used indoors, it might spread, requiring a fire extinguisher. These actually exist. http://www.arclighter.com/

I do see your point as to how this is a bad idea. I just kinda wanted the fire extinguisher to be more useful.

I assume its a specialized filtered air flow inside the base for optimum human breathing, so maybe an open flame may be hazardous, only if the fire reaches something.

Just want to take this moment to say that the fire extinguisher is so FUN to use underwater.
It feels like the movie "Gravity" just with a lot less space and a lot more water

really early in the game, I sometimes use fire extinguishers as a really low-budget seaglide.
