THE STORM UPDATE
It would be amazing if you could add storms into the game! It would have a counter, so it can't happen in the first few days. The wind would grow super strong and increase wave heights up to 50-60 feet! On the surface, it would push your escape pod around, flood some parts of the Aurora, the Islands and maybe part of the Precursor Base! The temperature would be extremley cold, and this would bring in something new: Heat generators! It converts solar energy into heat, so you don't freeze! Back to the storm, it might damage your base causing it to partly flood, push your cyclops and seamoth around underwater, make it hard for you to swim as it would slow you down, so you would have to find a shelter/base to keep you safe. If you are on the surface with your seamoth/cyclops you would be ablet to get on top of the waves. I understand if it would be too hard to add some of these, but that's why Im giving a variety of things to add in the STORM UPDATE. The heater would definately be a cool feature. THE STORM WILL HAVE NO EFFECT UNDER 300 METERS OF DEPTH. However, a good thing that would come with the storm is that more resources would spawn! There could also be a storm predicter device to give you a warning. There could be rain as well. In conclusion, THE STORM UPDATE would spice up the players game experience adding more fun, adventure and danger to the game! The STORM UPDATE would improve this already breathtaking game!
I hope that the STORM UPDATE will be a possible update in the future, using some of these (It would be amazing if it could include all) features in the game to make it the absolutely top survival game!
Also, please comment to let me know what you think or what could be changed, or another feature you could think of that would fit in with the storm idea.
Hope you like my STORM idea,

That's a cool idea! Would you have to build it directly onto your base or would you build it nearby?
While that's an awesome idea, you have found the main reason solar power must be backed by batteries: In bad weather, you don't get much energy, if any at all. That being said, this would simply add more of a challenge as the player would have to find other energy sources.

According to the last link, your depth of 300' is accurate, but only for a hurricane-level storm. According to the second link, it's possible to even feel it at up to 400', but 'normal' decently-sized storms can't be felt at 150', but that's in a nuclear sub (USS Spadefish SSN-668, so think about 2/3rds larger than a Cyclops).
The first link has some equations where you can figure out the depth using the height of the waves etc.
Who Remember to Stargate Atlantis(IUnfurtunatly i dont remember ep.name but i think it was named storm)
Yeah, that's not likely to happen, but I would be happy if there was just a small climate change, but a storm would be cool. The reason why I came up with as many ideas as I could because I know that most won't be added so I wanted to give a variety of features for a climate update.
I wish that creating stuff like this in games would be as simple as this:
When STORM starts, increase wave height to...........
Yeah, even if a small storm update gets added, some players might not like it, or find it hard, so the disable/enable stroms would be useful.
The idea of reinforcing your base against a storm sounds pretty cool. Would you just use normal reinforcments or do you have any ideas for a special storm reinforcment?
You thought about this a lot haven't you? That's true, it would be hard to get energy that way and all the stuff you researched is good as well. How about what DarthOmins said?
I understand that it would be hard to generate lightning or add it to the gme though.
That could be a possibility... but obviously you would have to build it on land. Would you have to purify it or does it give you pure water already?
There could be a system for the live pod you can install on the roof to get water from rain.
If you could pull it off, lightning has a ton of energy. Problem is, it has a ton of energy. (Enough to fry most electronics instantly, we have lightning rods to that the massive energy surge is dumped harmlessly into the ground). However, perhaps you could have a special lightning rod that collects part of the energy while dumping the excess into the ground / water. This is the future, after all.
To see our current (no pun intended, but accurate pun haha) struggles with this, read:
