PRAWN Drill Change

So as a suggestion, i think the PRAWN drill needs to be changed... It's awful at hitting resources at times, the resources themselves fly out in random directions, and it just feels awkward to use. My first thought on the drill arm is it'll just just like collecting resources by hand, just in greater numbers, but i was a little off. The process of mining the minerals is fine, but how the resulting product should be tweaked slightly.

My suggestion:
1.) Automatically pick up the resources it mines and puts them into a separate storage (↓see below↓) or the main storage (if the small storage sounds dumb) or even some combination of the two (like a buffer system in the arm that can feed into the main storage as you mine once the arm gets full).
2.) Turn the storage upgrade for the PRAWN to also give a small storage bin on the side of the arm that can be accessed from inside the PRAWN with a bound key and a HUD reminder or outside the vehicle like normal. Also make the storage on the arm only for resources gathered from mining.
3.) Have the drill lock on to the resources better, especially the ones that clip through the ground OR change how it mines the resources entirely.
The additional storage bay could be around 4x4 or 6x6, but remember, only from resources gathered from large resource deposits.

Overall, the drill is pretty bad, i can't lie. It just seems silly to use it then have to run around out of the vehicle to gather it all up. Yes, i know you can use the base arm, but that's just tedious especially since the PRAWN storage is somewhat small and resource grinding (like quarts or the likes) can get quite annoying. Also, as it stands, the PRAWN does have a few bugs in taking out the arm upgrades and the other upgrades the arms do offer are much more useful than the base claw (nothing more useful than getting out of extremely deep, dark holes buy using the grappling hook to recharge the jets without losing depth). These are just my thoughts on it, hopefully it doesn't sound too stupid, but as of now the drill arm is quite weird. I think if anything, automatic gathering should be the #1 thing changed.

***However, i do understand that SN is a game about exploration, not resource gathering/grinding, but there should be some accommodation for those who want it (im sure there's a bunch).***

So what do you guys think?

At the moment drilling is not even necassary... all the resources are easily collected by hand.
So fixing the drill will also involve actually making it necassary in the first place.

I don't believe in automatically picking up the resources, but I would like a module to give me that option. I'd love a extra storage-like physical upgrade storing a drone, a "Miner's Buddy", that can auto-collect resources. That way, it's up to the player to spend a module spot on auto-collecting, to spend an arm spot on the default arm to pick stuff up, or to decide to go out and get things manually.

Point 3 has merit, to which I'd like to add the ability to identify resources while inside the PRAWN (I have quite some trouble telling stuff like lead and silver apart on sight alone) and one of those percentage circles to show up once you start drilling so you know how much of a resource remains.

@Nachoboy correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you can take multiple arms with you, and swap them out on the fly. So there's that, you can have all of your arms, it'll just cost you a little storage and the time to swap them out.

But it would be cool to chance them by switching / browsing.
You have to leave the prawn and change the upgrades.

Agree on poor 'hit' for the minerals, better lock-on required.
Agree it's hard to tell minerals apart by sight sometimes.
Agree it would be nice to know how much/many resources are left.

Would be very nice to have a multi-tool arm you could you scroll to change use! (similar to how you change tool batteries)

andrewc, I think the drill is a must for kyanite.

I do take multiple arms out with me and the other upgrades (eg swap in the thermal power one in lava area).

As for automatic pickup, might be useful, might be a nuisance. I just spend an afternoon drilling everything I can find and leave it on the floor, esp near aurora. I think unless it was a very large pickup it would soon be full anyway. DrownedOut's option on losing an arm and gaining a large automatic carrier might work well.

I would like a 'stump' to be left behind so the crystals can slowly regrow.

@0X6A7232 yes you can, but as it stands the PRAWN has bugs that doesn't allow the arms to switch out (i think it has to do with the moonpool docking, it doesn't happen when i don't dock it). It'll unequip the arms then delete them without giving them to you. Obviously it's a bug at the moment but it's still nice to dream :D

@andrewc yes drilling isn't NECESSARY but if you actually read the entire post, it would be more geared toward people who want to grind resources a little easier. I mean, mining all the quartz needed to build this by hand would be SO painful, i don't even think there's enough in a reasonable distance on the map, there probably is, but you'd spend more time searching than actually collecting the resources.

4 "cells" of multipurpose rooms 3 high, each with alien containments (3) and glass windows mostly all around. That right there is 96 quartz alone. then the windows are well over 96 more quartz themselves. Try mining that by hand.

@Frustrated you can find single kyanite around the bloodkelp zones
