I think it would be a lot of fun and very helpful to gather together as much useful information as possible.
I'm thinking of things along the lines of......
Light refraction, temperature zones, migration patterns of whales or tuna, symbiotic relationships between flora and fauna (for example coral), isolated environments/oasis like thermal vents, ocean current maps, etc. etc.
Anything and everything that could be of help to the developers or even mildly interesting.
