My take on how subnautica multiplayer could be implemented.

I have an idea for how the game devs could implement multiplayer without the community backlash of "oh but i really like the experience that you are isolated, it makes it more immersive" or something along the lines of that.
The game development team for Subnautica could implement multiplayer as an unlock-able feature. What I mean by this is, when the story mode is finished and fully functional (you can get cured, cure the planet, get rescued, ect) then after you get rescued a cut-scene plays explaining that there is rare, mysterious alien structures and that it would be a good idea to go back to the ocean planet to study the unique fauna and flora. With this kind of system in place you would be able to have both single player and co-op with i would say up to 6 people. I say 6 because about the cyclops (i'm assuming that the cyclops will be the biggest underwater vehicle at full release) there is a PDA that says something about 6 people and the cyclops. I also believe that 6 people would just make a really good experience because most people would only really play in groups of around 3-4 at a time in most games and having room for 6 would just make the game seem more realistic in the way that if a single survivor came back from such a planet, and they had the intention of sending people back to search the place for secrets, they would not send a team of 2 people, they would send about 6 (this is just to backup my idea of a 6 person party, just pulling reasons out of my ass at this point :D)
I think that this is a really good way of implementing multiplayer in a fantastic game that could only be made better with friends.
I would also like to acknowledge how there WILL be flaws in my idea of how multiplayer could be put in a game, me not being a game dev or anything, i have no idea how complex this would be. But i am simply posting my idea on this site.
Thank you for reading this (if you made it all the way through) and i appreciate any feedback on this topic, i enjoy talking about such things as whatever this is

Maybe after story mode is finished, we'd get the co-op mode option, in which, the auroura crashes, and you're not the only survivor.

This seems like a good argument for Subnautica 2

BUT if they do then imo this is a way that they could potentialy do it in this sort of way

The reason they won't have multiplayer is because the game isn't built for it and they'd have to re-code most of the game if they wanted to add it in, not because "it would ruin the experience".

Although it is a bit of a shame to hear, I understand the coding restrictions behind multiplayer. As the devs have said before, they want to finish their game which was built for and balanced for a single player experience, from the coding to the gameplay. However, the idea posted here was definitely something I would like to explore even without the multiplayer touch, as that could be a really cool post game idea, where you go from the traditional subnautica map to a new one with new places to explore and new challenges. Again, I think many community members would like multiplayer in subnautica, but are more than willing to accept the devs reasoning (it's not like the devs said multiplayer wasn't happening because they hate the community for example) and the fact that the new updates are incredible and may never have happened on time (if ever) if the dev's time was taken on the arduous project of making multiplayer.

That's why I've said (Multiple times, but lots of you new posters weren't there for it [Hello!]) that if they implement co-op/multiplayer in Subnautica, it should be in a different game entirely. Maybe a sequel, maybe a reboot/expanded release. Since they'd have to basically remake the game from scratch, it sounds like, for co-op. So at that point why NOT have them just make a new game?

And by that logic, IF I got a million dollars then I'd spend it on...

Or IF Scarlet Johanson decided she wanted to date me, then I'd take her out to dinner...

Or IF Mighty Number Nine hadn't been a critical disappointment then its sequel could have the following improvements-

The point I'm getting at is well... The following points.
    • Multiplayer is so unlikely that it might as well be a hard no by this point
    • Thinking about Multiplayer will likely never get beyond idle fancy
    • This point has been made so many times that those of us who've been on this forum for a while have seen it countless times. We've seen every point, every desire, every justification, every idea for implementing it, and seen every dev response to it, seen the justifications, and by this point it's not even a dead horse, it's a spot on the ground that has a drying grease smear that came from repeatedly beating the dead horse into a foul-smelling paste, and now someone else has come up with a big stick saying "Let me have a go at that-"

Long story short: Multiplayer ain't happening. It's not GOING to happen. Threads about how they'd implement it are futile, pointless, idle thoughtcrafting that are not only pointless because they're concerning a feature that we know won't be in the game but take up space, contribute nothing that long-standing forum-goers haven't already seen a dozen times before, and the only logical way to address this is "Cool idea, bro, but it ain't happening" and that's it, end thread, because it's this song and dance again.

You guys sound like Hard Light Productions senior members explaining for the umpteenth time why FreeSpace 3 will never happen.
