[43678] Hardcore game load issue

With the new patch, when I start a new hardcore game and use the "save and quit to menu" option, the game bugs out and I get a huge red window that says "Game load error: try again" or something like that, with "yes" and "no" buttons. "Yes" never works. If I hit "no" it returns me to the game menu, but I can't load ANY game, without getting the same big red box. Quitting Subnautica and relaunching seems to fix this, at least until I quit to menu again.

Quitting to menu with a Survival game seems to work normally.

    Saved a few times no problem, and then it does this when I try to save. Noooooo I want to save and go to bed. I don't want to lose my progress now! :'(
    Never come across this before!

    More a game SAVE issue than a LOAD issue : "save data loading failed" bit of an odd message really!

    I third this. I had a 20 hour survival game that I lost, not too sad though because I really wanted a good hardcore save. Unfortunately though now I'm in this boat as well. I did work out a temp fix though and its not complicated. I started on opt out of experimental and when i switched it to Experimental, my survival saves worked again. all you do is find the game on steam, right click to go to properties, go to beta, select experimental.
    Hardcore doesn't save still so don't start a game there cuz it will ruin your save files again lol. But this should make it playable at least for you guys while we wait for the devs to fix the issue. It's such a fun game I've owned it only a few days. Good luck and happy fishing!

    PS. So far all i know is stepping it up to experimental will fix your saves in survival but opting back out will not be the same version so the experimental games wont work. But just switch it back to experimental again and your survival saves will work again. you can start a new survival game in the "opt out" version as well so long as your saves are working.

    Hardcore works for me, as long as I don't try to save/quit to menu. Save/quit to desktop is safe.

    The point is, it didn't just fail to save. There was a big red message, so there must be a reason why it didn't save that the devs already know of, or the message wouldn't be there in the first place.

    i know the message with the click yes or no. and it will say "game NOT saved" and the window says "failed to loading save" or something like that. it seems to only happen when you try to play a hardcore game, then it breaks it from that point on unless you update or switch opt in or out of experimental. my thinking iss it messes something up and reupdating will get the correct files or whatever. no idea im not a computer guy, but thats what i do to fix that and i know exactly how to cause it happening in my game.

    Not so, I can fix by restarting the game, and doing neither of the things you say are necessary.

    How, exactly, are you causing it? What makes one save different from another save two minutes later?

    The devs must know, they made an message for it. Question is, what is it, is it a bug and are they fixing it...

    This works for me as well. Maybe u/frustrated and I have a different issue. My games were not working at all even after restarting, and it was game breaking because there was no way to load or save after i got the error repeating its self. or at least i dont think there was. And maybe you tried a hardcore game in between? idk, thats the only thing that causes mine to start going crazy and breaks my saves until i update the version. hope my experience with it helps
