About six months ago i played this game for 50 hours and never had a crash on my system.
now i started a fresh game and i get allot of d3d11.dll caused an Access Violation. crashes
to me it looks like that those updates made the game perform worse

or is it my sytem? are those crashes that i get fixable?

i hope someone want to look into those logs
really will appreciate it!!

btw i already did the cache file removal thingy couple of times didnt do much i think because i have a savefile of 1 hour gameplay

Try checking for driver updates. In Steam, click Steam > Check for video driver updates.

Sadly, the game now is not what it was six months ago.

Without spoiling anything, there has been a lot added to the game. A lot. So now the game has to load wherever you are in the world, along with all of those things. So, even in stable, the game has a hard time loading in things, and crashes.

I've seen a lot of temporary workarounds, and they mostly work great for the time being. But I think the best thing to do is just wait it out. The devs know it's a problem, and they're trying to fix it. So we just have to trust that they know what they are doing (and they do :).)

This is probably obvious so I apologize that I sound like tech support. However did you try updating your Direct X driver to make sure it isn't wonking out? I have had a similar issue when playing Diablo and it was Direct X.

i can understand that the game is not that stable now,
but for me it is not even playable.

The only other solution I may recommend is completely wiping Subnautica from your machine. Not likely to be the cause I think, but it never hurts to try.

This is coming from a reddit thread on Rust which also uses Unity. According to the thread it has something to do with NVIDIA cards being bypassed to an onboard, though that's likely a different case for Subnautica. A fresh install of the game was mentioned as a possible fix to the issue.
These crashes seem to be related to Unity’s multithreaded D3D11 implementation and can be avoided by using the -force-gfx-direct command-line parameter in the game’s launch options. Unfortunately, this option forces single-threading and may affect performance considerably so please consider using D3D9 until we get this problem sorted out.

well friend it is still running lol just took a small break,
i travelt to different biomes with the seamoth, not a crash so far

i thought that verifying your files is about the same as reinstalling the game
but it looks like something has changed now

    still scared of crashes though

There's settings files, and possibly registry entries, and both of those won't get flushed with a verification. Also starting a new game gives you a fresh copy of CellsCache and CompiledOctreesCache, if one of those two was causing the problem.

In my years of development and graphical work, I have become a spastic saver. My hard drive hates me but hey, I never lose progress. B)

well lets hope the crashes stay away, i did delete those cellsCache and CompiledOctreesCache, a couple of times
before, even in a save file of 1 hour gameplay.

I know the feeling lol. but with subnautica you build up CellsCache faster that way or not? :(

messed the qoute up but it is readable i think :expressionless:

Not sure if it matters, I think once you save it creates those caches, so any save after that is likely overwritten.

Those caches, if not present, are loaded from a master (I think they're in Build18\) -- so you're using the fresh out of the box version, but it's only in memory. When you save, the factory default caches + any modifications you made are saved in the saved game slot.

    @Nicola89
I'll keep that in mind should anyone else have this issue. Thanks for getting back to us! The only thing I would suggest just for the purpose of finding out, have you disabled the -d3d9 command to see if you still need it?
  • Nicola89Nicola89 Netherlands Join Date: 2017-02-02 Member: 227520Members
    When i reinstall't the game i removed the startup command -d3d9 :)

    Try adding
    -window-mode exclusive

to the launch options (remove any other things you tried).
