If there was Sunbeam wreckage implemented just the size of the ship the wreckage will probably just some of the small wreckage strewn throughout the map (I'd post a picture here but my computer today is really glitchy) maybe even some larger pieces but to get large wreckage not very likely the most likely Sunbeam wreckage to be implemented is just some more metal salvage near the island
I don't see why a few bits of the smoldering debris that fell from the explosion couldn't be cargo crates or interesting fragments. It could be placed at the start of the game and just be too deep to reach before you get a pressure compensator. That wouldn't stop folks from cheating and heading to it with the sea glide once the location was known. But it would make it inaccessible to folks just following the normal flow of the game.
You'd have to massively, purposely sequence-break the game to accomplish that. If there's gonna be an alternate cutscene, then the Sunbeam might as well pick you up. It's not like you haven't shown you can get through the adventure without whatever it might have aboard (and a lot of "essentials" aren't actually essential).
Ultimately it depends on what the devs want and I don't need a Sunbeam wreck, but I definitely am interested. But there's a technical problem to consider. Everything in SN is static. All the wreckage is there from the start. All the Aurora does is open up, but it's still there since always. There's no precedent to something new appearing on the map. And it can't just be spawned in either if it's at a location you could be at when the Sunbeam arrives, which atm is everywhere. Far as I can see, Sunbeam wreckage would only be feasible if it'd come with an area that is closed off until the crash.
I think that's the main problem with adding in a sunbeam wreck. That would suck if it landed on your base.
remember guys, the gun is a QUARANTINE gun. It's there to prevent the carar from getting to other planets. If the sunbeam's crew were to be infected, leave (with or without you), and make it so civilization, billions more would die. The whole story is that you HAVE to find a cure before leaving. These are all the possible endings:
1. You disable the gun and leave in the sunbeam infected, and kill billions.
2. You miraculously manage to find a cure before the sunbeam AND disable the gun, stopping the spread of carar (probably impossible)
3. You leave on the rocket without disabling the gun, and explode, cured or not cured.
4. You leave on the rocket with disabling the gun, but forget the cure and kill billions.
5. You leave on the rocket with disabling the gun and cured, which is probably the intended ending by the devs.
Why would the same company use different metal for two different ships? And use a stronger one for a cargo ship?
Given Avery Quinn's attitude in the first message we get from them, it's apparent he's not affiliated with Alterra in any way. He expresses contempt in how Alterra calls for help for trivial things (like needing engine grease) and then not responding to call backs; then he makes a snide remark about losing money "running errands for Alterra." This would seem to indicate a dislike for Alterra, which would be career suicide making comments to his crew if he actually worked for them (remember how the Alterra AI records a 'suspicious' conversation in the Mess Hall over a trivial matter... they will swiftly weed out dissenters!)
Given how the mindless peon workers for Alterra adore them and their executive officers bend over backwards for them, I would say that the Sunbeam and her crew have no ties to Alterra. Maybe they're from another corporation, or more likely just an independent unit instead - as such they would also have different compositions and designs for their ship, and it would likely be far better designed as well. (The Aurora has the Exosuit Bay mere feet from both the crew quarters and the mess hall... that's just a disaster waiting to happen, lol)
The sunbeam transmissions based on the context of the conversations indicate more than once that Quinn wasn't the only one who had a problem with the way Alterra handled it's business, it suggests that there are others elsewhere. i'm guessing based on how much distain there is, Quinn was probably apart of an independent group. I'm also guessing that this independent group is completely dissatisfied with the way Alterra has gone about it's business and how it's impacting the group he works for, perhaps a number of ships were loaned from Alterra and they have in effect held this group hostage to outragous loans after the facts or something like that?
The Sunbeam is apparently of Alterra origin so it's possible this ship is apart of that loan and if Quinn realises that he was discovered knowing about the Aurora and did nothing it could create a lot more problems, like he was coerced because of a ship deal loan with the group he works for.
it would be nice to get some expanded lore on the galaxy in general, perhaps a few computer consoles on the aurora are still operational to grab a number of reports and background information.

How would you disable the gun without the cure? You would have to do it right after landing, and even then you would probably be infected.

Cave Jonson: the question is not "why?" It's "why not?"
